If you were hit with extreme cold and brutal temperatures today, take these steps around your home to prevent frozen pipes. This is a good time to prepare for possible power outages, too:

- Charge your devices.
- Ensure you have enough food and water.
- Plan where you'll go if your home becomes too cold to stay in.

Communities may open warming centers in response to the well below-normal temperatures expected through tomorrow. Residents are encouraged to contact their local emergency management office or call 2-1-1 to find the locations of any warming centers that may be open in your community.

MEMA also reminds residents to take precautions to avoid conditions like hypothermia and frostbite by:
• Limiting time outdoors
• Dressing in multiple lightweight, moisture-wicking layers
• Wearing hats, mittens and waterproof boots

Anyone using alternate heating sources like a space heater, woodstove or fireplace should follow recommended safety precautions and always have a fire extinguisher nearby.

Please keep pets indoors and be sure to protect their feet when they need to venture out.
