We need your help. This weekend, our neighbors won't get SNAP Benefits they count on to feed their families.

This is unprecedented, and it's caused a tremendous amount of confusion. It's possible local people will go grocery shopping this weekend, only to find out at the checkout counter that they do not have the benefits they need to get their groceries.

Our ask of you is simple: PLEASE BE KIND THIS WEEKEND. If there is a hold-up at the checkout at your local grocery store, please be patient. YOU have the ability to make an extremely hard time a little less difficult for someone else.

PLEASE HELP GET THE WORD OUT and THANK YOU COMMUNITY 🧡

If you would like to donate to help feed local people, please visit FOODPANTRY.org and thank you

This is the most common question we got in response to our latest post. Is development bad for water? The truth is: it depends.

The impact of housing depends on WHAT is developed, WHERE it's developed, and HOW it's developed. For example, dense, multifamily housing with sustainable fixtures built outside of water supply protection zones is generally low impact in terms of resource use. While unfettered development will negatively impact the water supply, population growth in itself is not necessarily a concern when managed properly. In fact, even though population has generally risen in the last several decades, overall water use has trended down. We are so grateful for our water concious residents!

Of course, this is an important topic and we will continue to innovate ways to mitigate any potential negative impacts associated with growth. The Water Department does not have the authority to veto specific projects or impose construction moratoriums, which is why we rely on our collaboration with other Town Departments to ensure that sustainable measures are taken in new projects within water supply protection zones.

We know this is a complicated topic. Still have questions? Call our Water Resources Manager, Rachael Belisle-Toler!

In a clear and decisive result, Gloucester voters approved the Multi-Family Overlay District zoning, which had previously received unanimous City Council support (with two recusals) last fall. This is a small but meaningful step toward expanding reasonably priced housing options for Gloucester resi...

Thank you, Gloucester, for voting YES. This is a huge victory for affordable housing. We will not be at risk for losing grants vital to keeping our city running.

Thank you to all the people who supported the Yes for Gloucester campaign. To those who listened, who wrote, who knocked on doors and talked with friends and neighbors, who shared the message online or with signs, and to those who turned out to vote in this special election: thank you.

It’s nights like this that remind us Gloucester is the Finest Kind.

We move forward together, all of us.
