Last Friday on May 23, 2025, Station Gloucester unfortunately said goodbye to a friend, shipmate and leader. BM2 Andrew Haas has departed STA Gloucester after 5 years of active duty service to the Gloucester, MA community and service.
BM2 Haas reported to Station as a Non-Rate in December of 2020 after graduating Boot Camp at TRACEN Cape May, NJ where he then went to Boatswain Mate ‘A’ School RAP & Return Program coming back to the unit as a Third Class Petty Officer and later advancing to Second Class Petty Officer in June of 2023!

BM2 Haas was a vital and important member of our unit certified as a Basic Coxswain on the 47’ MLB & 29’ RBS-II, Boarding Officer and Officer Of the Day. During his time here, BM2 trained 30 Communications Watch Standers, 33 Boat Crewman, 6 Coxswains and 7 OOD’s, along with responding to 120 Search & Rescue Cases resulting in the lives saved or assisted of 77 Mariners! Most notably, BM2 Haas was of vital importance during the sinking of the F/V Miss Sandy off of the Coast of Cape Ann where he assisted extracting the 02 personnel onboard before the boat had been taken by the Ocean.

BM2 Haas will be dearly missed, but we all wish the best of luck in the Coast Guard Reserves at Station Ponce de Lyon in Florida!

Massive BZ to everything you accomplished here at Station and all of your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated!
