Our volunteer today is Lindsay. Picture below is not Lindsay! It is what greeted her upon arriving home this weekend after an overnight volunteer GUEST shift. You never know what a shift with GUEST will bring but it will not be boring. We love you Lindsay.❤️

Meet volunteer and board member Tiffany. When not volunteering with GUEST, Tiffany can be found in the Director’s office at Mathews DSS or maybe training her canine companion puppy. Today she’s driving the bus to the Day Shelter. Thank you Tiffany, for getting us from point A to point B!!

Bob is a GUEST volunteer. He never knows what we are going to ask him to do when we call. Even Bob didn’t expect ceiling shadow puppets! Thank you Bob. We enjoyed the show (and love the new light fixture).

For 11 years GUEST has been a lifeline in our community—providing warmth, safety, dignity, and a path forward for those who need it most, operating a cold weather shelter 4 months of the year and a day shelter 12 months of the year.

Now we are working toward something transformative: a year-round, permanent space where individuals and families can find stability and support. But they can’t do it alone.

💙 Every donation—big or small—helps build this future.
💙 Your generosity today can become someone’s shelter tomorrow.

If you’re able, please join me in giving and spreading the word. Together, we can make a lasting impact. If you would like to know more, reach out here, call the day shelter 804-792-5046, or email [email protected].

Thank you to the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal for printing this article at the perfect time. Overnight winter shelter begins on Dec 1st. This has always been a community effort and we need you!

“We’re anticipating bigger numbers this winter.”

Gloucester United Emergency Shelter Team (GUEST) Executive Director Michelle Wells is gearing up for a long winter with more people in need of night shelter accommodations across the 10 counties GUEST serves throughout the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck.

This year, GUEST will be operating the winter night shelter from Dec. 1 through March 30. A church or civic organization will serve as the host site for GUEST for one week before the night shelter is moved to another site for the next week. This keeps going until the end of March.

The staff and board of GUEST are heartbroken as we announce the passing of founding board member, Bill Parks. Bill was a fixture in this space, always among the first to show up to do anything needed. We mourn the loss of our friend and ally. His funeral will be at 12pm on Friday, October 3rd at Andrews funeral home.
