I want to make you aware of a wonderful opportunity to serve others. “Little Dresses for Africa. The primary idea behind this ministry is to make simple clothing and send it to those most in need. Little Dresses for Africa is a non profit Christian organization based in Michigan www.littledressesforafrica.org,, which provides relief to the children of Africa. Simple dresses are made out of pillow
cases, and distributed through the orphanages, churches and schools in Africa to plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy! Founder, Rachel O'Neil began making simple dresses from pillowcases and sending them to missions in Africa. A pattern for a little girl’s sundress is provided on the above website or you may use your own pattern. These dresses can be made from pillowcases or a yard of durable fabric. Britches for Boys began with a simple question “What about the boys?”and a pattern to utilize T-shirts to make shorts for boys has been made. If you are a person who sews: You can use the patterns on the above website (or your own) and make as many dresses as wish. Remember that these dresses and any embellishments you might choose to add to them need to be durable and stand up to use. Please no buttons or zippers, as they have no way to repair them. If you want to learn to do some simple sewing: This is a great place to start. Help is available to lead you through the process. If you don’t have the time/desire to make a dress but you have fabric or pillowcases: You can donate new or lightly used pillowcases or fabric (requires about one yard per dress). Someone will turn your donation into dresses for needy little girls. If you don’t have pillowcases or fabric, but would like to help: You may purchase fabric or notions to be used for this project. Thread, ¼ inch elastic, double wide, binding tape and fabric (one yard) are all that are required to make a basic dress using one of the patterns provided. To help with the cost of shipping, I have made Holiday dresses including Christmas, Fall, Halloween, Easter, etc.. Theses $12 or 2 for $20 dresses are for sale to help offset the cost of shipping. ALL proceeds go to LDFA, there is no overhead. From time to time I will be posting pictures of the journey we take here in Gloucester, MA.. From pictures of dresses to those of us involved to local fairs and road trips, it is my hope that you will become inspired
