The Goddard Senior Center is a proud Goddard Area Welcome & Resource HUB Partner!

We hope to see all our Seniors there on Saturday to celebrate another great initiative created together to also support our seniors more!

The HUB is a community-led resource and connection initiative designed to serve as a one-stop, boots-on-the-ground support and connection hub for people visiting, moving to, working in, or already living within the Greater Goddard area, including the City of Goddard and the broader Goddard Public Schools USD 265 community.

Created to help welcome, connect, support, and serve, the HUB provides a physical place where residents and visitors can find local information, explore available resources, ask questions, and connect with businesses, organizations, professionals, volunteers, and community partners.

The idea for the HUB was inspired in part by Amanda Treadwell's experience helping open the Goddard Senior Center and seeing firsthand how important accessible information, personal support, and local connections can be.

“Helping open the Goddard Senior Center showed us how many people do not always know where to go, who to call, or what resources are available when they need help,” Treadwell said. “It reinforced how important it is to create meaningful connections and ensure that community members feel supported, connected, and never alone—including our seniors.”

📅 THIS WEEK AT THE GODDARD SENIOR CENTER!

We have a busy and exciting week ahead! Please note these important updates and activities:

😊 MONDAY

The Power of a Smile has been canceled due to no sign-ups.

We will still be stuffing 100 welcome bags at the senior center for the upcoming Goddard Area Welcome & Resource HUB Grand Opening! Come help us prepare these special bags to welcome and connect members of our community.

💙 TUESDAY — GODDARD WOMAN’S CLUB WORKDAY

🕙 10:00 AM–3:00 PM
📍 Easy Place Senior Community Building

We will be working on:

✂️ Tying blankets
📚 Organizing books
💌 Making cards and filling nut cups for Medicalodges
🥗 Sharing a potluck-style lunch together

This is a wonderful opportunity to have fun, visit with friends, and work on projects that give back to our community!

Guests are welcome! If you are interested in learning more about the Goddard Woman’s Club or possibly joining, we would love to have you spend the day with us. Come when you can and leave when you need to!

🍎 WEDNESDAY — SENIOR FARMERS MARKET VOUCHERS

🕤 9:30–11:30 AM

Stacy Nilles with the Sedgwick County Department of Aging & Disabilities and the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging (CPAAA) will be onsite distributing Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program food vouchers.

Adults age 60 or older who meet the income guidelines may qualify.

⚠️ Vouchers are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

This week’s Crafting Hour will be a fun Paint & Sip, presented in partnership with Goddard Medicalodges!

🇺🇸 Who wants to play co****le and represent the Goddard Senior Center? 🇺🇸

The Goddard Lions Club Flag Day Co****le Tournament is coming up on Sunday, June 14 during Goddard’s Main Street Market at the Linear Park Pavilion on South Main Street in Goddard!

The Goddard Senior Center will sponsor up to 2 senior member teams to play in the tournament this year. That means your team entry is paid for and sponsored by the Senior Center! Teams are 2 players, check-in is at 1:00 PM, and bags fly at 2:00 PM.

We are looking for up to 2 teams of senior center members who want to have fun, represent the Senior Center, and support a great community event.

Please let Amanda or Karen know if you are interested in playing!

And don’t forget about the Stroot Lockers Meat Bundle Raffle valued at over $200! The bundle includes 42 lbs of meat, including beef roasts, T-bone steaks, ground beef, beef patties, pork chops, breakfast sausage, and 2 whole chickens.

The raffle will be held at the end of the tournament, and you do not need to be present to win. Proceeds help support the Goddard Lions Club and the great work they do in our community.

June calendars are finally here! Thank you all so much for your patience and grace as we continue working through this busy season at the Goddard Senior Center. Our amazing volunteers have been filling in and helping keep activities, meals, programs, and daily operations going while we wait for a new full-time director to be hired.

We know the calendar and newsletter are later than normal this month, and we truly appreciate everyone’s understanding. June is full of opportunities to connect, stay active, enjoy meals together, try something new, and support community events.

Please RSVP and sign up for activities in advance whenever possible. This helps us know who is interested and prevents us from canceling an activity because we think no one plans to attend. You can sign up in person at the Senior Center or by calling/texting Karen at (785) 398-1255.

Please also remember that all summer library programs require registration directly through the Goddard Public Library.

Thank you to every volunteer, participant, and community partner who continues to show up and help make the Goddard Senior Center such a welcoming place for older adults in our community. We are grateful for you! 💙

Jr. Grandmaster Kraig Seglem will be instructor for Mondays at 6pm starting May 11th and Jr. Grandmaster Janice Meinhardt will be instructor for Friday's 6:30 pm starting May 22nd, both are 1 hour classes at Goddard Senior Center.

Today is Memorial Day, and as we wrap up the weekend and prepare for the rest of the week ahead, we pause to remember the true meaning of today. 🇺🇸

At the Senior Center, we are especially grateful for the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, and for the freedoms we are blessed to enjoy because of their sacrifice.

May we never take those freedoms for granted.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow for another great week of activities, connection, and care. ❤️🤍💙
