This morning at around 6:30am in the 7000 block of Highway 171 (cross street of CR 1006) a Johnson County Shared Services Arrangment school bus was struck by an oncoming vehicle that fled the location after the collision. The vehicle was described as a light colored pick-up truck, possibly a dually, and pulling a trailer. It was last seen headed towards Cleburne. Thankfully, there were no students on board but there were still 3 staff members. Luckily no one was injuried. Although the damage sustained to the bus was minimal, the potential that this was a more catastrophic collision was very great. We are seeking any information the public may have on the identity of the other vehicle and its driver. Please contact Godley ISD Police or Godley PD if you have any information.

Our own Chief Quinteros, along with over 130 Chiefs from all over Texas, spent time last week receiving training from the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Training Institute of Texas. Industry experts and professionals poured knowledge and experience into all attendees in order to provide the tools needed to help improve all aspects of law enforcement across this entire great state!

Due to widespread flu and other illness among students and staff, Godley ISD will be closed for the rest of the week and will reopen on Monday, Feb. 3. Just today, almost 650 students were absent with all campuses reporting low attendance rates in the 70-80% range; several more students went home sick from school throughout the day.

We do not make this decision lightly, but the high number of staff and teacher absences - over 60 just today - prevents us from safely and effectively covering classes and other duties.

Tuesday night activities will proceed normally. For the remainder of the week, varsity athletic games and some other specific extracurricular activities will proceed if coaches and sponsors determine that their groups can participate. Campuses will otherwise be closed to youth athletic activities.

The district encourages families to use this time for students and staff to recover and get well so that we can return much healthier next week. District staff will use this time to continue deep cleaning and sanitization of school buses and buildings, including classrooms, cafeterias, gyms, locker rooms and other parts of campuses.
