“The House of Mystery at the Oregon Vortex is facing an urgent need for donations. The hazardous flood early last year caused significant damage that we underestimated at the time. The Gift Shop and Ticket Office across the creek is the only access point to and from the area, and it must be rebuilt to restore safe entry and exit.
Unfortunately, our insurance policy will not cover these emergency repairs and we have exhausted our available funds. To keep the business running, the owner has also been contributing all her Social Security payments toward paying the bills. Due to the bills being so horrendous, she has also cashed out her IRA and liquidated as many assets as possible. The business had also previously taken out an SBA loan to keep going during COVID times which adds a tremendous amount of debt and the owner is struggling to make ends meet. Repair costs are estimated at more than $150,000, it’s most likely a lot more than that. With permits, engineering firms, etc. that estimate continues to grow. We have been anxiously waiting for all of these pieces of the puzzle to come together and there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. We now have an engineering team, a contractor and the county on board to take the first steps forward but it’s costing us extra money before the repairs even start. We are humbly asking for your help to fund all these repairs and move them forward to protect the ability to welcome visitors to and through the Oregon Vortex.
No donation is too small—every contribution makes a direct difference. We understand times are incredibly tough right now so for those who have already donated, we are so grateful to you. Please, please help us, we wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t absolutely necessary and have exhausted our options. I know it sounds like we are pleading and we are, we desperately need your help. Thank you for your support and for helping us preserve this extraordinary destination for our visitors and the world.”
