The next Cookies with Councilors will be held at Scully's Cafe on Colorado School of Mines Campus, on Monday, September 14, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This unique Cookies with Councilors will be an opportunity for community members to welcome Colorado School of Mines students to Golden, and for students to meet their City Councilors. Light refreshments will be provided, and Scully's Cafe will be open to purchase additional items.

Scully's Cafe is at 1812 Miner's Spur Road, Golden.

Next Saturday, September 12, 500 drones will take to the sky for a dazzling light display! The Stories in the Sky Drone Show will begin at about 8:00 p.m., with food trucks, ice cream, and live music beginning at 7:00 p.m. The entire event is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The event will take place at Golden's Ulysses Park, 1205 Ulysses St. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and bring a blanket to enjoy the show. The event and parking is free, and well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed.

Following a public health investigation conducted by Jefferson County, a rabid bat was detected in downtown Golden near 9th Street and Cheyenne Street. Rabies is a serious disease that can be deadly to both humans and animals if treatment is not administered immediately.

The disease spreads through the saliva of the infected and has the potential to affect pets, livestock, and humans. If you or your pet came into contact with a wild or stray animal, contact your healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately.

Starting today (September 1) and going forward, 5280 Waste Solutions will be the new hauler for Golden's Pay-As-You-Throw Waste Collection Program. The transition will be seamless for City residents, as the new hauler uses the same carts, collection day, and service.

The City is excited to begin this journey with 5280. Welcome to Golden!

Bear Aware event tomorrow night! Join Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and City of Golden Community Services for an informational event about recent bear activity in the City and how to manage it. The event is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in Golden City Hall, 911 10th St., Golden.

Drought conditions have pushed bears to look for food sources closer to civilization, which has increased resident and bear contacts.

The event is on Saturday, September 12 from 7:00 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m., with live music ahead of the coordinated show of 500 drones lighting up the sky at Ulysses Park, 1205 Ulysses St. The drones take to the sky at about 8:00 p.m. Blankets are encouraged!

The City of Golden is announcing $500,000 in grant funding for 2027 Thriving Communities and Arts and Culture Programs!

Applications are due by 10:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2. The two separate grant programs award $150,000 to Thriving Communities programs and $350,000 to Arts and Culture programs. Both greatly benefit and improve the quality of life for Golden residents.

Construction on the preferred playground concept, developed by the community after more than a year of input, is set to begin in early 2027.

Community members provided input on various design plans throughout the development stage. The plan illustrates the proposed arrangement of playgrounds, gathering spaces, circulation routes, and landscape improvements within Lions Park between the Golden Community Center, 10th Street, and Maple Street.
