All aboard! 🚂🚂🚂

Cap off Colorado Railroad Heritage Week with a visit to Golden's own Colorado Railroad Museum. The state of Colorado has a rich, long history of railroads, and they played a huge role in making Colorado what it is today. The museum, on the edge of town, is a great destination for kids and adults alike.

For our equestrian fans, the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden has a premiere horse show happening both Saturday and Sunday. If that isn't enough, check out various live music options as summer begins to heat up. See you out there! ☀️

🌟 Sunday Business Spotlight: El Dorado Mexican Restaurant 🌟

This Father's Day, we're celebrating family businesses, family traditions, and the dads who make them possible by highlighting a Golden business built on family, perseverance, and a whole lot of hard work.

When Jose Duran opened El Dorado Mexican Restaurant in 2008, there were no guarantees. The early years brought challenges, but Jose's determination, work ethic, commitment to quality and perhaps most of all - beloved green chile recipe - helped build a loyal following passionate about the El Dorado experience.
Today, nearly two decades later, Jose is semi-retired and his sons, Eric and Sergio, lead the restaurant. In fact, El Dorado remains a true family business, with eight family members—including Jose’s teenaged grandchildren—working together to serve the Golden community.

"Our dad taught us that success comes from showing up every day, working hard, and never giving up," says Sergio. "He's spent more than 30 years in the restaurant business to take care of our family. We're proud to carry on what he started."
Known for its award-winning green chili, handcrafted margaritas, and recipes that have remained largely unchanged for nearly 18 years, El Dorado prides itself on consistency. More than 90 percent of the menu is made in-house, and generations of local families have made the restaurant a gathering place for celebrations, team dinners, and everyday meals.

The Duran family recently received recognition from the Golden Chamber of Commerce and every year provides generous support to local schools and Golden High School athletics.

Most of all, they're grateful. Grateful for a community that welcomed them when they arrived and has supported them ever since.

Cheers - of an El Dorado Top Shelf Margarita - to Jose and all the Golden dads this Father’s Day!

Happy 167th birthday, Golden! Once called Golden City, the community was founded as a mining supply town in the midst of Colorado's gold rush. And on Saturday, June 13, 2026, the City of Golden celebrated Flag Day with a very, very special piece of Golden's decorated history.

Did you know Golden was capital of Colorado Territory from 1862-1867? During that time there were three separate attempts to join the budding new United States of America, but all failed to earn votes or were vetoed by the President. Finally, success came in 1876 during the Nation’s centennial.

This flag, discovered in the Old Capital Building (1122 Washington Ave), was said to have been displayed when the Legislature was in session. Thought to originally bear 37 stars, a 38th was added signifying Colorado’s admission to the U.S.

You can see the flag and hundreds of other artifacts in the Golden History Museum, at 923 10th St., open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

🌟 Sunday Business Spotlight: 303 Paragliding 🌟

Golden is one of Colorado's best places to experience tandem paragliding, with two highly respected local operators helping visitors take flight above the Front Range.

Today, we're spotlighting 303 Paragliding and owner Whitney Martenson and tomorrow, we’ll spotlight Golden Paragliding and owner Josh Taylor. Two awesome Golden outfits, one phenomenal way to experience Golden!

Golden’s 303 Paragliding is one of the few woman-owned paragliding companies in the United States. Whitney Martenson moved to Colorado at 18 and discovered paragliding in her early 20s while living in Aspen. Ironically, she had always been afraid of heights—but once she experienced the calm, peaceful sensation of paragliding, she was hooked.

Over the next decade, Whitney balanced a career as a massage therapist with a passion for flying, logging thousands of flights and paragliding around the world. She eventually earned the rigorous certifications required to become a tandem pilot and launch her own company.

When two established Golden paragliding operators closed last Spring, Whitney saw an opportunity to bring her dream to life while filling a need in the community she now calls home.

What she loves most is showing people that anyone can fly. Recently, she took a woman in her 70s soaring above Golden. Other memorable trips include flying a cancer survivor who was celebrating being in remission. She also recalled a woman who was flying in honor of her mother who had always wanted to try paragliding but had passed away before doing so.

“For some, it’s an absolute dream come true or a bucket list adventure. And for others a way to overcome a fear,” she says. “But the experience isn't about adrenaline as much as people expect.

Floating above Golden is surprisingly peaceful and meditative—quiet enough for conversation, reflection, and taking in spectacular views of the foothills and Front Range.”

✨ Whether you're celebrating a milestone, crossing off a bucket-list adventure, or simply curious about seeing Golden from a new perspective, 303 Paragliding offers an unforgettable way to take flight.
