History came alive at South Table Mountain Park on Tuesday, May 26, with the grand opening of the T. rex Tooth Trail!

This new 1.5-mile natural surface trail connects with Fossil Trail, Old Quarry Trail, and Basalt Cap Loop to create a scenic 3-mile loop packed with prehistoric and historic significance. The trail is named after the first known T. rex tooth discovered in North America, originally found in this area in 1874. Visitors can also see the historic Colorado Amphitheater and enjoy new interpretive signage highlighting the area’s fascinating past.

The ribbon-cutting celebration featured Commissioners Dahlkemper, Kerr, and Zenzinger—plus two surprise T. rex visitors who helped make the event extra memorable! Thank you to all our staff who made this trail and event happen.

⛔CLOSED: Beaver Ranch Park closed 5/27 – 6/19. Bark Park is closed. Disc golf and zipline are operating by reservation only.

⚠ NOTICE: Beaver Ranch Park will be closed May 27 until approximately June 19 for Phase 2 construction. While every effort will be made to stay on schedule, construction timelines may change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions. During the closure, the park, including the Bark Park, will be closed to public access. Permitted concessionaires, including disc golf and zipline, will continue to provide services via reservations.

The Bark Park will be closed throughout Phase 2. Once Phase 2 is complete, the Bark Park will reopen temporarily for a couple of months until the existing fencing is removed. That fencing will then be reused for the new dog park being constructed at the main trailhead.

JCPOS will provide at least two weeks’ notice before the current Bark Park permanently closes.

Dates are subject to change depending on weather or construction delays.

Trails and mud don’t mix well. Walking or riding through muddy sections can widen trails, damage vegetation, and create lasting impacts. If the trail is soft or muddy, help protect it by turning around and finding a durable surface.

Thanks for helping keep our parks and open spaces healthy and enjoyable for all! 🌿
