Today at 12:24pm Lyle Fire, Dallesport Medic, and Klickitat County Search & Rescue were paged to an injured hiker on the Cherry Orchard Trail at approximately 890 foot elevation, located just east of Lyle. Lyle Fire responded with C-400 x1, B-410 x2, B-412 X1, and 3 POV. Bingen Fire offered help via radio and responded with B-37 X5. Multiple units responded to the trailhead just east of the Lyle Tunnels on Hwy 14 and the rest of the responders responded to the east end of the Lyle School. Lifeflight was checked for availability at the beginning but was not available. Rescuers hiked in just under a couple miles with a stocks basket, a wheel, other rescue equipment, and along with the Paramedic and EMT plus medical equipment from Dallesport Medic. Secondary rescuers came in from the Lyle School side to help. During the incident one of the responders experienced so issues and a second team with White Salmon Medic responded in from the Lyle School side. A second call to Lifeflight was made, at this time one helicopter was available and was dispatched to the Lyle Football Field. All responders exited the trail system out to the Lyle School side. Lifeflight was eventually canceled before arriving. The first patient was transported in a private vehicle and the responder was transported to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation. Also we all were supported from start to finish with our 911 Dispatchers! We are grateful for all the responders that volunteered several hours to this incident on a Sunday. Thank You!

Klickitat County Search and Rescue (KCSAR) rope team leaps at opportunities to train and support the community.

One such recent opportunity was at the Goldendale PSE Generating Station as a Standby Rescue Response team. This gave the team a chance to apply their knowledge and skill in a different environment.

Does this sound interesting to you? Reach out if you are interested in joining. KCSAR next academy starts January 2026. www.klickitatsar.org

Introducing Danny Dehaze

Danny joined KCSAR in 2024 following completion of the SAR Academy in Klickitat County. He is one of a small group within KCSAR that is also a member of SAR in a neighboring county. Danny comes to us from Wasco County SAR, where he is currently a board member. Danny uses his dual membership to help each county by opening lines of communication for cooperation when needed.

Since completing the SAR Academy, Danny has completed Incident Command Systems training, Public Information Officer training, and is on track to complete Search Management in Oregon - Initial Operation this fall.

In addition to KCSAR, Danny has an interest in Emergency Management. Recently, Danny volunteered his time to support the recovery for residents impacted by the Burdoin fire.

When he is not working or supporting the community, you might find him out off-roading in the mountains, or diving into photography of events, nature and sports. He is a lover of movies, especially Star Wars. His love of movies and photography aligned with taking pictures of the stars at three different Oscars!

Klickitat County Community & Volunteer Appreciation

The Klickitat County Sheriff's Office extends a heartfelt thank you to our incredible community for your patience and understanding during the challenging Burdoin Fire. Your cooperation amidst the Level 3 evacuation orders was vital in helping us manage the situation effectively, protect property from potential looting, and protect against motor vehicle collisions with fire crews actively working in the area.

We also want to express our deepest gratitude to the dedicated volunteers and professionals who stepped up to assist our residents during this critical time. A massive shout-out to Klickitat County Search and Rescue (KCSAR), Benton County Posse/SAR, and the many law enforcement professionals who worked tirelessly alongside us.

21 volunteers selflessly contributed over 640 hours to safely es**rt residents into and through the Level 3 evacuation zone. Their efforts focused on two crucial areas:

Animal Care: We prioritized getting residents in to care for their livestock and pets, successfully completing 64 es**rts for animal purposes, preventing potential loss of life, and saving one precious fish.

Property Checks: Volunteers also facilitated 98 general visits for residents to check on their properties and retrieve essential items.

While we completed a significant number of es**rts, we want to acknowledge that some requests were canceled. This was primarily due to being unable to make contact with the requesting party, limited resources preventing us from reaching everyone before the Level 3 zone was reduced to Level 2 on Saturday night, or residents finding alternative solutions. We understand the urgency of these situations and appreciate your understanding.

Your resilience, combined with the selflessness of our volunteers, truly exemplifies the strength of Klickitat County. Thank you for being such an incredible community!
