Warmer weather means more time outside — hiking, biking, running, climbing, kayaking, and enjoying everything our area has to offer.

It also means we see an increase in accidental 911 calls from wearable devices like smart watches and crash detection features.

A hard fall on the trail, your mountain bike hitting a bump, wiping out on a skateboard, or even slamming your watch during activity can trigger an emergency SOS call without you realizing it.

While these safety features can absolutely save lives in real emergencies, accidental calls can tie up 911 lines and emergency resources.

Here’s how you can help:
Know how your device’s emergency features work
Cancel accidental alerts immediately if you’re okay
Stay on the line if 911 calls you back
Don’t ignore emergency notifications from your device

If you accidentally call 911, that’s okay — just let us know you’re safe. Hanging up without speaking means we have to call back and may need to send responders to check on you.

Enjoy the sunshine, stay active, and stay safe out there!

It's National Road Trip Day!!

The Friday before Memorial Day is declared National Road Trip Day and serves as the official kickoff of the summer road trip season. Millions of Americans hit the road each year over the long weekend to visit friends and family, while paying tribute to our American heroes.

Road trips that begin and end with happy passengers are always the best. It's time to hit to road and celebrate National Road Trip Day. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you prepare your trip:

1-Plan ahead. Even a spur of the moment trip requires planning.
2-Vehicle maintenance is vital to any successful road trip.
3-Plot your course. Consider construction, fuel and snack stops, shopping, and the interests of the other travelers.

Have you ever tried finding an address you’ve never been to before in High Prairie on a sunny day?

Sometimes the driveway you need is tucked deep in the woods, the grass is overgrown around the driveway, the house numbers are hard to see, or there are several roads and driveways close together.

Now imagine trying to find that same address during an emergency at night in smoke, snow, or rain.

That’s where blue address signs help.

A clearly posted blue number sign makes it easier for first responders to find you fast when every second matters.

High Prairie Fire provides blue number signs for $25 each.
