The Goldsboro Police Explorers traveled to the NC Justice Academy in Salemburg, NC, this week to attend the week-long NCALEEA Explorer Academy, joining nearly 40 other Explorers and Cadets from across North and South Carolina.
Four members of Goldsboro Police Explorer Post 209 participated in this year’s academy. Jacob N., Velocity P., and Raylan W. attended for their first year and participated in the Basic Class, while Zachary T. returned for his second year and participated in the Advanced Class. From the moment they arrived, our Explorers were challenged physically, mentally, and emotionally through early morning physical training, flag call, classroom instruction, and practical, hands-on law enforcement scenarios.
Throughout the academy, they developed leadership, teamwork, discipline, confidence, communication skills, and law enforcement knowledge. Training topics included physical fitness, constitutional law, criminal investigations, public speaking, traffic enforcement, mock court, handcuffing techniques, crime scene investigation, team-building exercises, and realistic practical scenarios.
The week also included a specialized law enforcement resources day, featuring the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and Raleigh Police Department’s motorcycle unit. These demonstrations gave Explorers an up-close look at aviation operations, motorcycle patrol functions, specialized equipment, and career paths within public safety, while also reinforcing the importance of service, commitment, sacrifice, and responsibility in the law enforcement profession.
This morning’s graduation recognized the Explorers and Cadets who successfully completed the academy. They were awarded a certificate of achievement and a pin to wear on their uniforms, signifying their accomplishment and dedication throughout the week. During graduation, Jacob N. was recognized as Most Outstanding for the Basic II Class after being selected by his academy peers for his leadership and dedication throughout the week.
The Academy was a wonderful experience for our Explorers and a valuable opportunity for them to learn, grow, and challenge themselves alongside other young leaders in law enforcement. We are proud of the Goldsboro Police Explorers. We congratulate all the academy graduates and are especially proud of the Goldsboro Police Explorers for their hard work, professionalism, perseverance, and dedication. You represented Goldsboro with pride!
