This week the LIFT (Leading in Faith Together) Committee gathered to listen, learn, and discuss some of the most pressing needs facing Wayne County—from mental health and family stability to housing, youth support, and community connection.
LIFT’s mission is:
“To serve as the hands and feet of Jesus in our community—quietly meeting needs, being intentionally and faithfully present, and responding with purpose in moments that matter most.”
One of the most powerful moments of today’s meeting came from LIFT Chairman, Pastor Michael Hamm, who shared the story of the miraculous catch in Luke 5. Using a cast net as an illustration, he reminded us that when the fishermen’s nets were overflowing, they had to call their partners in another boat to help bring in the harvest.
His challenge to the group:
“What if we cast our nets together?”
The conversation that followed reinforced a simple truth: Wayne County doesn’t lack people who care. We have churches, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, businesses, and community leaders already doing incredible work. The opportunity is to strengthen the relationships between those already serving so we can better support one another and respond together when needs arise.
And speaking of support, every card lined along the wall today represents a new Chamber member business. Members of LIFT took time to personally write notes of encouragement, welcome, and support to these entrepreneurs as they invest in our community.
