It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that the Wayne County Democratic Party acknowledges the passing of Ernestine Wooten, a remarkable individual who served as the former chairperson of our county Democratic Party. In this difficult moment, our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all those who were touched by her impactful presence.
Ernestine's unwavering dedication to the principles and values of the Democratic Party has left an enduring legacy within our community. Her leadership was not only defined by political acumen but also by a genuine concern for the well-being of our community members. Ernestine tirelessly worked towards fostering unity and creating opportunities for dialogue that transcended political divides. Her ability to
connect with people, coupled with a strong sense of advocacy for justice and equality, made her a beloved figure among her community, a living legend.
As we reflect on Ernestine's life and the impact she had on our party, we remember her with gratitude and admiration. Her indomitable spirit and resilience in the face of challenges serve as an inspiration to us all.

Posted • It was inspiring to deliver the MLK address in Rocky Mount at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, less than two miles from where Dr. King first shared his I Have a Dream speech before the March on Washington. We will keep fighting for our younger generation to live the American dream in eastern North Carolina — keep dreaming!
