Attention Parents! Do you have a child who has an interest in aviation and wants to be a pilot when they grow up? Civil Air Patrol is the answer. One of Civil Air Patrol’s Three Main Missions is Aerospace Education. Our squadron places a large emphasis on aerospace education in our cadet program. Below are some of the activities that Squadron 131 Cadets participate in:
Orientation Flights
Cadets are given the opportunity to fly in Civil Air Patrol aircraft (Cessna 172 and Cessna 182) as well as Civil Air Patrol Gliders, where they are introduced to the fundamentals of flight. These hands-on experiences allow cadets to see how the lessons they learn in aerospace education are applied in real-world aviation.
Cadet Wings
This program enables cadets to work toward earning their private pilot’s license. Through structured flight training and mentorship, cadets gain valuable flight experience, which can lay the groundwork for a future career in aviation. This program pays for the cadets’ entire training. The average cost to get a pilot license is $20,000.
Flight Simulator
Recently Squadron 131 was able to acquire a grant for a new flight simulator and cadets have access to a state-of-the-art flight simulator, providing a safe and controlled environment to practice flying skills and maneuvers. The simulator is an excellent tool for cadets to build confidence and gain familiarity with cockpit controls and procedures.
Aerospace Lessons
In addition to practical flight experience, cadets participate in lessons that cover a wide range of aerospace topics. These lessons include subjects such as aerodynamics, space exploration, and the history of aviation, giving cadets a comprehensive understanding of aerospace science and technology. These lessons are taught by both Cadets and Senior Members.
