Sgt. Clayburn with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on U.S. Hwy 101 this afternoon and relayed the information to units in the area as he could not get turned around.

Sgt. Rule from the Coos Bay Police located the vehicle and became involved in a short pursuit until the vehicle crashed on the railroad tracks at the old chromite mill in Bunkerhill.

The suspect fled from the vehicle on foot and I 💝was called to assist. I tracked the suspect along “Coos Bay,” to the north end of the chromite mill where the suspect entered the facility and fled through several buildings. The perimeter was adjusted due to the track direction to encompass the perimeter of both the chromite mill and old GP mill. 

I was tracking the suspect eastbound through the second building when Deputy Francis said she saw the suspect running east away from officers on the property of the old GP Mill which is directly adjacent to the chromite mill.

Coos Bay Police, Oregon State Police and Sheriff’s Deputies immediately responded and took the suspect into custody. Coos Bay Fire also assisted in scene.

An awesome example of interagency cooperation!!
