Today a GCSO Operation Lone Star Interdiction Sergeant stopped Marisa Magana, from San Antonio, for a traffic violation.

Ms Magana claimed to be driving a U-Haul to a funeral. Investigation revealed Magana was in possession of stolen mail that had been illegally acquired from San Antonio and Goliad.

She was also in possession of passports that do not belong to her and a large stack of credit cards belonging to various people. Upon her arrest it was discovered that Magana had a ledger book with the personal and financial information for many people.

Ms Magana was arrested for the following charges:

Fraud - Possession/Use of Credit or Debit Card - More than 50 (First Degree Felony)

Fraud - Use or Possession of Identitying Info of 10-50 People (Second Degree Felony)

Theft of Mail (Third Degree Felony)

The GCSO is working with the Department of Homeland Security and the US Post Master to pursue federal charges as well.

Magana remains in the Goliad County Jail.

On Friday the GCSO stopped twenty-one vehicles on one traffic stop on Hwy 59. These vehicles were part of a convoy headed for Mexico.

One vehicle was registered out of Mexico, one was displaying a license plate that has been cancelled, one was displaying a license plate that had been replaced and should have been destroyed, and the remaining vehicles had no valid registration or temporary permit as required by Texas law.

Of the long line of vehicles stopped, all but one were removed from the roadway and impounded.

⚠️🚨⚠️🚨⚠️UPDATE⚠️🚨⚠️🚨⚠️
The last subject in the bailout has been located and arrested.

Thanks to our partners at ICE for helping us with the effort this morning. The additional manpower was extremely valuable.

⚠️🚨⚠️🚨⚠️UPDATE⚠️🚨⚠️🚨⚠️
The GCSO has identified the suspect who absconded from the scene and will be obtaining a warrant for his arrest.

At this point we have no reason to believe that the subject poses a danger to the public. We intercepted the person coming to pick him up and are continuing to conduct our investigation.

If you see anything suspicious, please call us at 361-645-3451.

Today was a historic and meaningful day for Goliad County.

The Goliad County Sheriff’s Office had the honor of hosting Governor Greg Abbott, the Governor of the Great State of Texas, for a joint meeting of the Operation Lone Star Taskforce and the Coastal Bend Peace Officers Association.

Governor Abbott has long been a steadfast supporter of law enforcement. During his visit, he spoke with great appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our state and federal law enforcement partners as we continue working together to secure our border and protect our communities.

We were especially honored as Governor Abbott presented a certificate and Texas flag to Live Oak County Sheriff Larry Busby, recognizing his many years of dedicated service. His kind words to Sheriff Busby, the longest-serving sheriff in Texas, were heartfelt and well deserved.

We are grateful to Governor Abbott for his continued support of Texas law enforcement and for taking the time to visit and encourage those who serve on the front lines every day.

The owners have been located.

Apparently, the grass really is greener on the other side — at least according to some adventurous cattle found hanging out near Frankie Rd and Perdido Creek earlier this week.

A small herd was found living their best life on someone else’s property, and we’d love to get them home before they try to file for squatters’ rights.

If they look familiar, call the SO at 361-645-3451.

🐄 And before anyone asks — no, we’re not starting a petting zoo (though it’s starting to look tempting).n
