Thinking about riding an e-bike? Know the classes, know the laws, and ride safely. π²β‘
California recognizes 3 classes of e-bikes:
πΉ Class 1 β Pedal-assist only, up to 20 MPH
πΉ Class 2 β Throttle-assisted, up to 20 MPH
πΉ Class 3 β Pedal-assist only, up to 28 MPH
Important California e-bike laws:

Riders under 18 must wear a helmet
β
Class 3 riders must be at least 16 years old
β
E-bikes must follow traffic laws just like other vehicles
β
Stop signs and red lights still apply
β
Riding distracted or recklessly can result in citations or crashes
Safety reminders:
β Wear a properly fitted helmet
β Ride with the flow of traffic
β Use lights and reflectors at night
β Stay alert and avoid distractions
β Watch your speed around pedestrians and traffic and do not ride on sidewalks.
