Thinking about riding an e-bike? Know the classes, know the laws, and ride safely. 🚲⚡

California recognizes 3 classes of e-bikes:

🔹 Class 1 — Pedal-assist only, up to 20 MPH
🔹 Class 2 — Throttle-assisted, up to 20 MPH
🔹 Class 3 — Pedal-assist only, up to 28 MPH

Important California e-bike laws:
✅ Riders under 18 must wear a helmet
✅ Class 3 riders must be at least 16 years old
✅ E-bikes must follow traffic laws just like other vehicles
✅ Stop signs and red lights still apply
✅ Riding distracted or recklessly can result in citations or crashes

Safety reminders:
✔ Wear a properly fitted helmet
✔ Ride with the flow of traffic
✔ Use lights and reflectors at night
✔ Stay alert and avoid distractions
✔ Watch your speed around pedestrians and traffic and do not ride on sidewalks.
Safety should always come first. Ride smart, ride responsibly, and help keep Gonzales safe for everyone.
