Thinking about riding an e-bike? Know the classes, know the laws, and ride safely. 🚲⚑

California recognizes 3 classes of e-bikes:

πŸ”Ή Class 1 β€” Pedal-assist only, up to 20 MPH
πŸ”Ή Class 2 β€” Throttle-assisted, up to 20 MPH
πŸ”Ή Class 3 β€” Pedal-assist only, up to 28 MPH

Important California e-bike laws:
βœ… Riders under 18 must wear a helmet
βœ… Class 3 riders must be at least 16 years old
βœ… E-bikes must follow traffic laws just like other vehicles
βœ… Stop signs and red lights still apply
βœ… Riding distracted or recklessly can result in citations or crashes

Safety reminders:
βœ” Wear a properly fitted helmet
βœ” Ride with the flow of traffic
βœ” Use lights and reflectors at night
βœ” Stay alert and avoid distractions
βœ” Watch your speed around pedestrians and traffic and do not ride on sidewalks.
