Goochland County Farm Tours flyer for Saturday, September 19, 2026. Four local farms will be open to the public for tours and educational experiences. Crane & Clover Flower Farm, 5847 Clover Hill Lane, Columbia, is open 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. and features more than 40 types of flowers. Labyrinth Training Center, 3813 Forest Grove Road, Sandy Hook, is open 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. and features rescued horses and its 2026 Fun Show for Liberty. Boreal Forest Farm, 4700 Three Chopt Road, Louisa, is open 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and showcases regenerative chicken farming. Swine Knot Animal Sanctuary, 2712 Perkinsville Road, Maidens, is open 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. and is home to rescued pigs, horses, llamas, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, goats, and sheep.

The Virginia Beehive Distribution Program is now open for applications! 🐝

This program provides free beehive assembly equipment to Virginia residents, to help expand the number of actively managed honey bee colonies throughout the Commonwealth.

If you're interested in beekeeping and want to support the health and diversity of the Commonwealth's pollinators and ecosystems, apply by Sept. 9. 🍯🌼

🔥 Wildfire Smoke & Horse Health 🐴💨

Poor air quality can be harmful not only to us but our horses too. Smoke from wildfires can irritate a horse's respiratory system and cause fatigue, coughing, difficulty breathing, etc.

You can monitor local air quality at www.airnow.gov. During periods of poor air quality, you can protect your horse's health by:

🐎 Limiting or avoiding exercise.
💧 Providing free access to fresh water.
💦 Controlling dust such as watering dry lots and soaking or feeding dust-free hay.
🕰 Allowing time for recovery: airway damage from wildfire smoke takes 4 to 6 weeks to heal after air quality returns to normal.
☎️ Consult your vet if you notice signs of smoke irritation.

Pictured below are two calf’s that went missing from our local Holiday Lake 4-H center. They belong to a Nelson County Resident who brought them down for educational purposes during the week long camp. Unfortunately their gate was left open and they escaped. If you see them please contact the non-emergency line 434-352-8241, so we can get them back to their owner.

Its YQCA Time!!

We are hosting a YQCA training for all 4-H exhibitors who need the training for local shows, including the Virginia State Fair!
