Wayne Township Fire Department Supports the Fayette County EMS District Levy Renewal

​The Wayne Township Fire Department stands alongside our brothers and sisters at the Washington Court House Fire Department in strongly supporting the Fayette County EMS District's 3-year renewal levy on the November ballot!
​This is not a new tax, but a renewal that maintains a 50-year tradition of essential, life-saving services across our communities.

When you dial 911 in an emergency, you count on help arriving fast. In our community, that help comes from neighbors helping neighbors—men and women who step up, put on the gear, and respond at a moment’s notice.

​Right now, our volunteer roster is critically low. Without enough local volunteers, the safety of our entire community is put at risk:

• ​Longer Response Times: Fewer available firefighters means waiting on neighboring departments to travel further to reach your home during a fire or medical emergency. In a fire, every second counts—fire doubles in size every minute.

• ​Increased Strain on Safety: Fighting fires, conducting rescues, and responding to accidents are labor-intensive tasks. Understaffed crews face higher risks, faster exhaustion, and increased physical danger on scene.

• ​Higher Costs for Homeowners: A department's staffing directly affects community insurance ratings (ISO). Lower ratings can lead to higher property insurance premiums for everyone.

• ​Potential Tax Increases: If a community loses its volunteer base, local government must eventually fund full-time paid departments. Paying full-time salaries, benefits, and pensions means introducing or raising local taxes.

​You Don't Need Prior Experience to Serve

We provide all necessary training, equipment, and support free of charge. Whether you can respond to calls, help with behind-the-scenes support, or assist during specific hours, your time and commitment directly protect your family, friends, and neighbors.

​How to Get Started:
• ​Stop by the Station: Visit us during monthly training nights to meet the crew and see what we do.
• ​Ask Questions: Send us a message or talk to any current member to learn how volunteering fits into your daily schedule.

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must pass a physical
• Live within 10miles of the station
• Must pass a background check
• Yes we do get paid per runs
• You only need to make 25% of runs 50% trainings and 35% meetings per year

EMPTY GEAR CAN’T ANSWER CALLS – WE NEED YOU!

When the alarm sounds at Wayne Township Fire & Rescue, every second counts. But right now, we have turnout gear sitting empty on the hooks—gear that needs dedicated men and women to fill it.

If we don't fill these seats and gear up with new volunteers, the reality is simple:

Fewer available responders when emergencies happen.

Longer response times when our neighbors need help most.

Greater strain on our current team who work tirelessly to cover every call.

You don't need prior experience—we provide all the training and equipment. All you need is the desire to serve your community and be atleast 18 years or older and live within 10 miles of the department.

Working the derby at the Fayette county fair was a powerful reminder of what true teamwork looks like when every second counts. Members from every department on site came together seamlessly to handle a critical incident.

​When a driver took a heavy hit to the driver’s side door and needed urgent medical care, everyone jumped into action as one unit. The team moved fast to safely extricate the driver from the vehicle and transfer care to Fayette County EMS and Jeffersonville EMS.
​Due to the severity of the impact, air medical transport was requested. Members immediately went to work setting up a secure Landing Zone (LZ) to get the flight crew on and off the ground safely.

​Moments like this show what happens when local departments work side-by-side. Outstanding work by all members involved, as well as Fayette County EMS, Jeffersonville EMS, and the life flight crew. We’re sending our best wishes to the driver for a swift and full recovery!

A friendly reminder that our outdoor warning sirens inside the city (and Good Hope) will test for three minutes at noon today. These sirens are on the new automated system and are tested on the fourth Friday of the month.

All other sirens in Fayette County (townships and villages) are tested by the Fayette County Sheriff's Dispatch Center on the last Friday of the month (next Friday).

It is a nice day, and the fair is going on. Please share and let others know. It is only a test.

UPDATE ROAD IS OPEN NOW we would like to thank odot and fayette county engineer for helping us block the roads

State Route 753 is currently CLOSED entering Good Hope from both the North and South due to a downed power line.

​To get around the closure, please use one of the following detours:

​Alley behind Town Hall to pass through town or to get to greenfield

North Street to detour around

​Please avoid the area if possible, slow down, and give utility crews space to work safely. We will post an update once the road is cleared!
