This was our first year doing an Engineering in Nature Summer Program and we had a ton of fun with our "deserted island theme." Here is how our weeks played out. . . . . .

Week 1: We were shipwrecked on an island and needed to work on map skills to find our way to the treehouse. We made observations of what a good shelter might look like and then created different shelters that had to withstand low and high windspeeds tested in front of a fan.

Week 2: We had to learn how to use a compass to go along with our map skills and created catapults to send out a distress signal from the "island." Students tested how far their catapults launched pompoms. We had so much fun with this one that we forgot to take pictures.

Week 3: This was our time to try and get off the "island" so we put all of our map and compass skills together to search for hidden scrolls with clues that led us to a key that would open up a door to our supplies. The supplies were used to design and create a boat or raft that was later tested in the river.

We were sad to see our summer programs come to an end but will look forward to planning next years summer adventures. We wishing everyone a great school year!

On Tuesday we completed our 3 week Art in Nature Summer Nature Series. We loved seeing all of the unique creations from our young artists. Summer fun at the Pine River Nature Center!

We always say that we love when our TEC students stop by for a visit after they graduate. Imagine how excited we were when Lucy chose to spend her summer with us for her college internship. From assisting with summer programs to caring for our animal ambassadors and so much more, we thank you Lucy for all of your hard work and dedication this summer! Best of luck during your last semester of college. You are destined to do great things!
