The correct polling location for tomorrow is: 1006 Center Avenue.

Voters should report to 1006 Center Avenue to cast their ballot from 7 AM - 7 PM tomorrow. We apologize for any confusion this error may have caused and appreciate your understanding.

PRESS RELEASE

On July 21, 2026, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to assist the Kansas Highway Patrol in the search of multiple individuals that fled a routine traffic stop. Multiple Sheriff’s Office personnel and surrounding agencies responded. Thanks to the efforts of all involved, three individuals were detained for questioning. At the direction of the Kansas Highway Patrol, the search for the remaining individuals was discontinued at approximately 11:00 PM. Sherman County Sheriff’s Office personnel continued to monitor the area throughout the night. The remaining individuals are not believed to pose any threat to the public and have likely left the area. However, deputies will continue to monitor the area. Sherman County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend its appreciation and gratitude to Goodland Police Department, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Sherman County EMS, Sherman County Emergency Management, various community members and businesses and Kansas Highway Patrol. Please report any suspicious vehicles or individuals to Sherman County Dispatch at 785-890-4575.

This afternoon, Sherman County residents will receive a text from 785-728-4716 or 809-46. This is a legitimate contact number on behalf of Sherman County and it will be used moving forward for county emergency and mass notification. Residents do not need to do anything and can opt out at any time.

Due to inclement weather, Sherman County offices are delaying opening until noon today (3/19/25). The weather situation weather conditions will be monitored and assessed, and a determination regarding the rest of the day will be made as necessary. Stay safe and warm!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SHERMAN COUNTY, KANSAS – On March 14, 2025 a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 between Edson and Brewster in Sherman County, Kansas occurred due to a strong weather front with high winds and near zero visibility. Yesterday Sherman County declared a State of Local Emergency. This declaration will be formalized at a special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners on Monday.

A joint effort of State and local agencies (Kansas Highway Patrol, Sherman County Sheriff, Thomas County Sheriff, Cheyenne County Sheriff, Goodland Police Department, Northwest Kansas Ambulance Service, Thomas County EMS, Wallace County EMS, Cheyenne County EMS, Brewster EMS, Sherman County Fire Department, Thomas County Fire Department, Brewster Fire Department, Sherman County Road and Bridge, Goodland Public Works, Kansas Wildlife and Parks, Sherman County Emergency Management, Sherman County Dispatch, Cheyenne County Dispatch, Wallace County Dispatch, Kit Carson County EMS, Kansas Department of Transportation and a number of local wrecker companies have worked tirelessly yesterday and through the night to address the aftermath of yesterday’s significant weather event.

A number of motorists were transported to local and area hospitals. Shelters have been established in Goodland and Colby. If you are trying to reach a family member or loved one who had travel plans in this area, please call the Kansas Highway Patrol at (785) 827-4437. This number has been established for those still trying to reach a traveler who may have been involved in this incident. Family members wanting to check if their loved one is at the shelter should call 800-Red-Cross (800-733-2767). They will not be able to release the names of the individuals but will be able to pass the message along. Red Cross will also have a mental health and health services individual available at the shelter.

Emergency crews continue to address the unfortunate fatalities. This is still an ongoing investigation and any further information will be released by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
