Happy Labor Day Weekend! 🇺🇸
The holiday that takes a day to honor the hard work and labor that America does each and every day to keep this country running.
Enjoy your celebrations and time off.
We have very hot and dry conditions for this weekend so stay hydrated 💦 and use caution with grilling.

Grilling Safety
* Keep distance: Set your grill at least 10 feet away from siding, deck rails, and low branches.
* Stay close: Never leave a hot grill alone.
* Create a zone: Keep kids and pets at least 3 feet away from the hot grill.
* Check gas: Look for propane leaks before you turn the gas on.
* Cool coals: Douse charcoal with plenty of water and let ashes cool completely before throwing them out.

Campfire and Outdoor Safety
* Drown the fire: Pour water on your campfire until it is cold to the touch before you leave.
* Park with care: Do not park cars or trucks on dry grass. Hot parts under your vehicle can start a fire.
* Check chains: Make sure trailer chains do not drag on the road and make sparks.
* Skip fireworks: Leave fireworks at home, especially in dry weather.
(Goodlettsville Fire Department Administrative offices will be closed on Monday.)

By the end of the month the two GFD recruits, training with Hendersonville Recruits, will have completed their course. 🔥
They both had made great progress and the training has been excellent! Well done Raife Rippeteau and Hayden Layne! You are almost done!

Sending out our thanks, support, and prayers to the many Tennessee firefighters who have deployed to help with the Texas wildfires.
The Ross Fires (in Texas) began on Aug. 24 near Highway 180 in Palo Pinto County, Texas.
As of Sept. 2, the Ross Fire has burned more than 90,000 acres and is 31% contained.
Firefighters are building and reinforcing containment lines and protecting nearby communities.
Hot, dry conditions and abundant dry grass and brush keep fire danger elevated across much of Texas.
Tropical Depression Edouard is expected to bring little or no rainfall to the areas where the largest fires are burning.
Fire Departments who have gone to help at this time are from Brentwood, Franklin, Madison County, Knoxville, Maury County, and Columbia. Tennessee Strike Team 1100 has also been dispatched. They are expected to return on or about Sept. 13.

Mike Bauer started work with the City of Goodlettsville on August 8, 2007. After nineteen years of service, the Goodlettsville Fire Department is happy to share that Mike has been named the Director of Codes and Fire Marshal for the City of Goodlettsville.
Mike’s hard work and endless devotion to make our city better and safer are known by all who have worked with him.
In honor of the occasion, members of GFD celebrated him and presented him with a new helmet for his promotion.
Congratulations, FM Bauer! You bring years of experience to this city, and with that comes great benefits to our citizens.

It’s Friday! The long hot summer continues. ☀️
Stay hydrated and find time to cool off. 💦 Check on seniors and friends. No humans or pets should be left in vehicles. Stay weather aware.

This week GFD recruits (FF Hayden Layne and FF Raife Rippeteau) are continuing in their training class with other fire departments being conducted by the Hendersonville Fire Department at the training facility.

One of the most commonly used fire service skill sets is automobile extrication. Modern cars do a fantastic job of protecting occupants in what appears to be catastrophic wrecks but….When you need to be removed with fire dept assistance, it can be a real life and death situation.
Learning to use those life saving tools was the focus of today’s, and this weeks training for our new recruits.

The flags are lowered and like the whole world, firefighters love Dolly Parton too.
Dolly’s generosity reached firefighters as well as so many others. She contributed financially to volunteer fire departments in the mountains and other fire departments in Tennessee.
We will all miss Dolly and the State of Tennessee is just a little darker tonight. But the light she brought will always stay.

TN Chapter of IAAI (International Association of Arson Investigators) held its annual conference last week.
Mike Bauer, Lt. Kory Anderson, FF Brandon Head, and FF Josh Wright attended from Goodlettsville Fire.

The conference covers days of training, classes, and exercises, creating an invaluable resource for experience and knowledge in investigating the origin of fires.

There is always training and firefighters like Michael Fuqua are always available to share what they know.
On Thursday, Lt. Fuqua instructed several new part-time firefighters on non-destructive forcible entry methods. Firefighters who may have to forcibly enter a structure on an incident need to be trained in how to do that with fast techniques and to do the least damage when possible.
