The challenges veterans face in transitioning from military to civilian life are many; unemployment, homelessness, PTSD and more. Many women veterans need assistance and often tend to isolate if they don't receive the critical intervention of services needed. Awareness is imperative as these issues arise, so does our understanding of the challenges our women veterans face each day. Our most sincere hope is to empower all veterans and to help them make a successful transition into all the areas of their new civilian lives and to find self-sufficiency for themselves and stabilize their families. Michigan Women Veteran Empowerment is a veteran led collaboration of members of the Michigan veteran community working together to create a unique veteran and youth programs that are tailored made to meet their needs and fulfill the desires of the veteran, their families and the youth. Veterans seeking to file disability claims related to military sexual trauma are “more likely” to be denied by the Department of Veterans Affairs than those whose claims are for combat injuries, according to a new report mandated by Congress.

That conclusion emerged in a major review of VA protocols around disability claims related to military sexual trauma, or MST. The report found that the “major challenge” veterans face at the VA when filing a claim for military sexual trauma is the “incompatibility” of those claims with “many components” of VA processes originally developed for assessing bodily injuries or behavioral diagnoses from combat.

The conclusions come from a congressionally-ordered report, released June 3, by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The report also found that, long before veterans reach the VA, the military’s hierarchical structure and internal culture dissuade survivors from reporting military sexual trauma. Once out of active duty, veterans find that the VA’s evidence threshold creates a standard “that many veterans are unable to meet.”

🇺🇸 With Heartfelt Gratitude to National Society Daughters of the American Revolution 🇺🇸

As we unveil our newest exhibit, "Women of Valor: 250 Years of Women Serving Our Nation," we extend our deepest thanks to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their partnership and generous support in making this exhibit possible.

As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, this exhibit shines a light on the remarkable women whose service, sacrifice, leadership, and courage helped build, defend, and preserve our Nation across more than 250 years. Their stories remind us that women have been serving our country since before there was a United States and continue to serve with distinction today.

Through DAR’s commitment to preserving and sharing American history, thousands of visitors will have the opportunity to discover the inspiring stories of these women, learn from their experiences, and better understand the vital role they played in shaping our Nation.

We are honored to partner with an organization that shares our dedication to honoring those who came before us and ensuring their legacy endures for future generations.

Thank you, DAR, for helping us tell these important stories and for ensuring that the women who served our Nation receive the recognition they so richly deserve.

✨ Together, we are preserving history, honoring her service, and inspiring the generations to come.

An Army veteran who served in Iraq was subdued and apprehended by three National Guardsmen during an incident last month in Washington, D.C., that was captured on video and recently posted online by a local community group.

Posted by Free DC, the roughly 2-minute video shows a woman telling the National Guardsmen to get away from her and that they have no authority to detain her. Two Guardsmen eventually force her to the ground and restrain her while she yells at them to get off of her.

The woman shown in the video is Anna King, said her attorney, who confirmed to Task & Purpose that the footage is authentic.

King served in the Army from 2005 to 2009 and left the service as a captain, according to her DD-214, which was provided to Task & Purpose. The document lists her military occupational speciality as psychological operations. Her awards include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, and Combat Action Badge.

She has pleaded not guilty to assault charges in connection with the incident, court records show.
