Last week, the Goodview Fire Department officially opened the Gruett Training Grounds and began training in the smaller of the two structures with a focus on fire behavior. This first training was simple, but it established the foundation for our fire attack methods as we progress to full scale training bringing together fire suppression, ventilation, search, and rescue.

You can see in one of the pictures just how hot a fire can get in a matter of minutes.

Last week was National Public Telecommunications Week. Our dispatchers work hard for the community, being the FIRST first responders. They are the calm in a storm of emergencies. We are sorry we missed last week, but just know, we are thankful every day for our dispatchers!

⛈️ Tornado Drill Reminder – Winona County ⛈️

Severe Weather Awareness Week is underway, and it’s time to practice your safety plan!

📅 Statewide Tornado Drills:
Thursday, April 16
🕐 1:45 PM & 6:45 PM

🚨 Winona County will be activating ALL outdoor warning sirens during both drill times.

This is a great opportunity to:
✔️ Practice going to your safe place (basement or interior room)
✔️ Review emergency plans with family or coworkers
✔️ Make sure your weather alerts are turned on

⚠️ Reminder:
• This is only a drill — no actual Tornado Warning will be issued
• No Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) will be sent to phones
• Sirens may sound depending on your location (they WILL in Winona County)

Take a few minutes to be prepared — it could save your life.

Last night we bid farewell to Traci as she moves into retirement. She has been a Goodview First Responder for 21 years. She referred to herself as the "Mom" of the group. Always offering a calm, caring voice to all who needed it. When tragedy struck, she was always there. She took care of many on the department throughout the years. Her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and parents were all there to celebrate her amazing 21 years.

But don't worry, her husband will remain on the department, giving Traci a break from him once in a while. Enjoy your retirement, Traci, you've earned it!

Tomorrow is our Annual Gun Raffle. This is a sold out event. For everyone who purchased their raffles, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

This event allows us to maintain and update our equipment, ensuring our firefighters continually have functioning equipment. It allows us to purchase training props, and new equipment. It has allowed us to build the Gruett Training Grounds, allowing us more access to live fire training. Those grounds are up and running now.

This event and other donations help us to continually improve so we may serve the Goodview Community as one of the best volunteer fire departments! We thank the entire Goodview Community for your continued support!

Important information for the Fire Marshal.

If you’re gifting electronics this holiday season, it’s likely some of them have lithium-ion batteries. They’re in everything from cellphones and laptops to lawn tools, e-cigarettes and even children's toys.

Take these steps to make sure you’re using these devices safely:
• Buy only listed products. Listed products have a stamp from a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) on the packaging, which means they meet established safety standards.
• Only use chargers that have been approved by the device manufacturer and are meant for that specific item.
• Don’t charge anything when you’re not home to keep an eye on it.
• Charge devices on a flat surface in the middle of the room away from other items.
