We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Leadership West alumnus Mark Hutchins.

Mark was a true pillar of the West Valley, known not only for his innovative leadership and contributions to The Wigwam, but also for the way he invested in people and community. He served on numerous boards and commissions, supported our military through programs such as Honorary Commander and Fighter Country, and consistently found ways to make our region stronger.

What many will remember most, however, was Mark's heart. He had a remarkable ability to build relationships, make others feel valued, and bring warmth to every conversation. His generosity, wisdom, and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mark's legacy will continue to be felt throughout the West Valley for years to come. He will be dearly missed by the Leadership West family and the broader community he loved so well.

This didn't start with us.

Servant leadership has a long history in America. It looks like Valley Forge. Normandy. Chosin Reservoir. Fallujah.

It looks like ordinary people who decided that the person next to them mattered more than their own survival.

Leadership West exists because leaders like that built something worth forging forward.
Today we remember them. We honor them. We carry what they started.

Congratulations Monica Martinez, class 32 aluma, on being recognized with the School Connect AZ Community Impact Award. Monica said it best "Service has always been a core value in my life, something my parents instilled in me from the very beginning. I’ve always believed it takes a village to raise a child, and I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by people and organizations who live that out every day. Choosing to be part of CHASSE Building Team has only strengthened that belief. Their commitment to community and the way they empower us to show up and serve is something I don’t take lightly. This recognition isn’t just mine, it belongs to every student, educator, and community partner who continues to show up, pour in, and make a difference."

The Avondale Economic Development team, in partnership with the Maricopa County Medical Society, recently hosted a successful West Valley Healthcare Summit, welcoming more than 90 physicians and investors who remained engaged throughout the evening. Mayor Mike Pineda opened the event with an inspiring message, followed by a dynamic panel featuring a diverse group of physicians, bankers, and business leaders. The strong turnout and continued interest were evident, with many physicians staying afterward to connect and explore opportunities in Avondale. The event highlights ongoing efforts to foster meaningful connections and support healthcare growth in the West Valley. Way to go City of Avondale!

Congratulations to Leadership West Class 32 on completing an unforgettable 10 month journey through our Flagship Program.
This class did not just show up. They leaned into each other, embraced every opportunity, and kept asking for more. In fact, Scott Blake may have set a Leadership West record by attending every single Focus Tour. Sorry Scott… it just happened to be the year we kept adding more tours.
What made this class special was the willingness to engage in honest dialogue, ask hard questions, and learn from one another’s experiences and perspectives. That openness created meaningful conversations around some of the biggest opportunities and challenges facing our region today.
Together, this cohort experienced many unique tour visits including 2 at Luke Air Force Base, Phoenix Raceway, and brand new school, Vai, attended Luke Days, explored the interconnected systems shaping our region, and saw firsthand how leadership, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, and community all flow together.
One of the most impactful moments came when our class happened to be at the Regional Public Safety Training Center while the EOC was live and operational, giving the class a real time glimpse into leadership and coordination during critical moments.
This class leaned into curiosity, relationships, and leadership in all the right ways.
Graduation is not the end. It is the beginning of your journey as part of the Leadership West Alumni family. Congratulations, Class 32. The future of the West Valley is stronger because of you. Congratulations 🎉
