Some things change. Some things don’t.

For this Throwback Thursday, one of our Captains shared a photo taken with his crew 13 years ago. Recently, through a unique set of circumstances, that same group found themselves working together again for the first time in more than a decade.

To celebrate the moment, they recreated the original photo—bringing 13 years of memories full circle.

A lot can happen in 13 years. Stations change, assignments change, equipment changes, and life certainly changes. Yet the friendships and camaraderie built in the fire service often remain long after crews move on to different stations, shifts, and roles.

Moments like these remind us that some of the strongest connections are built through years of working together, supporting one another, and sharing experiences both on and off the job.

Do you have a favorite throwback photo or recreation? Share it with us in the comments.

Goodyear Fire HM188 recently responded to a gas line incident after a construction crew struck a 2-inch gas line at a new development area.

Crews worked to secure the scene, manage hazards, and coordinate operations alongside Buckeye E707 and Southwest Gas personnel. While Goodyear crews were unable to fully clamp the line, Southwest Gas was able to complete the clamp and stop the leak before the scene was turned over to their crews.

Incidents involving natural gas can create dangerous conditions, which is why coordination between fire crews, utilities, and partner agencies is critical to maintaining scene safety and protecting the surrounding area.

If you ever smell natural gas, leave the area immediately, avoid using anything that could create a spark or ignition source, and call 911 and your utility provider from a safe location.

Great work by all crews and partners involved in helping keep the scene safe and controlled.

Helping protect those who protect the community.

Goodyear Fire recently received StormStick decontamination tools for our apparatus through support from the StormSticks help firefighters begin the decontamination process following fires by helping remove carcinogens from gear and equipment before crews return to service.

Through the support of Marie Peck and our department was able to receive StormSticks honoring Goodyear firefighter Austin Peck, who passed away from occupational cancer in 2019. This effort is part of a broader initiative to help reduce occupational cancer risks for firefighters throughout Arizona.

Occupational cancer continues to be one of the leading health concerns in the fire service, and tools like these represent another important step in helping protect firefighters long-term. We are grateful to the 100 Club of Arizona, the FETCH Foundation, and all those who continue supporting firefighter wellness, safety, and cancer prevention efforts.

If you are interested in learning more or supporting these initiatives, we encourage you to visit the 100 Club of Arizona. Thank you for helping support the health and safety of firefighters across our communities.

Goodyear Fire honors Memorial Day by remembering and honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States.

Today is a time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many in defense of our country and the freedoms we enjoy every day. We are grateful for those who served and never returned home, and we continue to keep their families, friends, and fellow service members in our thoughts.

Today and every day, we remember their sacrifice and honor their legacy.

Goodyear Fire remembers Cory Nochta as we mark the third anniversary of his passing from ALS.

Cory joined the Goodyear Fire Department in 2018 and retired in June 2022 following his diagnosis. During his time with our department, Cory made a lasting impact on those who had the privilege to work alongside him, not only through his service, but through the kindness, strength, and positivity he brought to others every day.

One phrase many people now associate with Cory is:
“Be Tough. Be Kind. Be Awesome.”

While Cory may not have specifically said those exact words to everyone, the phrase became something many of us adopted because it perfectly reflected the example he consistently set through his actions, character, resilience, and the way he treated others.

Today and every day, we remember our brother, honor his service and sacrifice, and continue supporting all those who loved him while carrying forward the legacy he left behind.

Goodyear Fire Engine 181 responding to a vehicle fire last night.

When seconds matter, teamwork matters. Crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire while operating safely on scene.

Vehicle fires can escalate quickly, so if you ever notice smoke or flames coming from a vehicle, move to a safe location and call 911 immediately.

We’re proud of the work our crews do every day to help protect our community.

Training and collaboration continue to be an important part of fire prevention and life safety efforts across the Valley.

Goodyear Fire recently hosted an in-person fire alarm training at our administration building focused on basic fire alarm concepts and system understanding. The class brought together fire inspectors and personnel from several departments for an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and continue building knowledge within the fire prevention field.

Hosting trainings like these not only helps strengthen professional relationships between agencies, but also supports the ongoing education that plays a major role in keeping our communities safe.

We appreciate everyone who attended and helped make the training a success, and we’re proud to help support opportunities for continued learning and collaboration throughout the region.

With Arizona monsoon season approaching next month, now’s a great time to brush up on weather alerts and what they mean before storms begin moving into the Valley. 🌮⛈️

So… what better way to explain it than with tacos on Taco Tuesday?

🌮 A Monsoon WATCH means conditions are favorable for storms to develop — like having all the ingredients ready to make tacos.

🌮 A Monsoon WARNING means the storm is actively happening or imminent… basically the tacos are already on the plate and it’s go time.

Understanding the difference between watches and warnings can help you stay prepared and make safer decisions during monsoon season.

Also… apologies if this post suddenly changed your dinner plans.
