⚓ Remembering Our Heritage | Lowcountry Chiefs’ Mess

The CPO Selectees from the Lowcountry Chiefs’ Mess took part in a heritage run through historic Naval Base Charleston, taking time to remember what this installation once was and the tremendous impact it had on our Navy, our community, and our nation.

From its establishment in 1901 until its closure in 1996, Naval Base Charleston served as a vital part of the nation’s defense. Known first as the Navy Yard and later as the Naval Base, the installation supported thousands of Sailors, civilians, ships, and families throughout its nearly century-long history. 256 vessels were built, thousands of crafts were supported, and the base played a significant role in the economic and social fabric of the Lowcountry.

During the heritage run, the CPO Selectees visited historic locations, including the Admiral’s House and former Navy Hospital Charleston, reflecting on the generations of Sailors and civilians who served here and the sacrifices made in support of our Navy and our nation.

As these CPO Selectees prepare to join the Chiefs Mess, they are reminded that becoming a Chief Petty Officer is about more than wearing anchors—it is about understanding where we came from, honoring those who came before us, and carrying their legacy forward.

We remember their service. We honor their sacrifice. We carry the legacy forward.

What an outstanding time at the 2nd Annual Homeschoolers of the Lowcountry Art Show held at Joint Base Lindsey Grahams Professional Development Center.

CMC Tuiel was honored to come out and speak with the talented young artists and families who make this event so special. He also had the opportunity to share a few pieces from his daughter’s personal art collection—an experience that made the day even more meaningful.

Art matters. It gives our kids a chance to express themselves, explore their creativity, build confidence, and share their unique talents with others. Events like this remind us how important it is to create opportunities for our children to showcase not only what they can learn, but what they can imagine.

Congratulations to all of the young artists who shared their work! Keep creating, keep exploring, and never stop expressing your unique talents. 🖌️🎨
