Gorham Fire Department responds to two structure fires.

Today, August 10, 2026, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Gorham Fire Department responded to a residence at 26 O’Brien Drive in Gorham after a passing motorist reported seeing flames coming from the rear of the home. Car 2, Engine 2, Ladder 2 and Ambulance 1 arrived within 5 minutes to find a working fire in the kitchen that had burned through the wall and extended to the rear of the home. Companies quickly deployed 2 hand lines and completed a primary search of the building to ensure occupants were out. The fire was knocked down quickly and extensive overhaul was performed to ensure no hot spots remained. Two adults and an infant who were inside the residence were able to safely evacuate. One adult sustained minor burns. Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal determined the fire started in the kitchen after ordinary combustible materials were left too close to the stovetop. The fire has been ruled accidental. Assistance was provided on scene and covering our stations by Westbrook, Standish, Scarborough, Windham, Hollis and Buxton.

At 12:18, units were dispatched to 397 Ossipee trail, 207 motors for an outside fire that had extended into part of the building. Upon arrival, the exterior fire had been mostly extinguished and small portion of the building was thoroughly checked to ensure there was no further extension. State Fire Marshals Office is still investigating.

Gorham Fire Department would like to remind everyone the importance of working smoke detectors and having an escape plan for you and your family in case of a fire.

Three of our firefighters traveled to Illinois to for the “firemanship” conference, where they attended both lectures and hands on training by some of the best in the industry. Many of our firefighters go above and beyond to better themselves by seeking out higher training and education, all with the goal of providing the best service to our citizens. We appreciate the dedication to their craft and the commitment they have to being a little better every day!
