Last but not least in our senior spotlight is CDT Assa Gabo! 🫡
Major: Graduate Student in Public Policy
Hometown: Originally from Burundi, East Africa
Role: Bravo Company First Sergeant (1SG)

As Bravo Company 1SG, Gabo has played a key role in maintaining standards, discipline, and motivation within the company. The 1SG is responsible for helping keep cadets accountable and ensuring the company stays prepared and ready for training, making it one of the most important leadership roles within a company.
Outside of ROTC and academics, he enjoys playing soccer and basketball.
Before joining ROTC, Gabo served several years as an enlisted Soldier, where he developed a strong desire to continue serving while stepping into greater leadership opportunities. That experience ultimately led him to pursue the officer route through ROTC.

One of his favorite parts of the program has been the early mornings preparing for PT with fellow cadets, sometimes starting as early as 4:00 a.m. While the wake-up calls may be tough, it’s the people and shared experiences that made those moments meaningful, and what he says he’ll miss the most.

After commissioning, CDT Gabo will branch Adjutant General (AG) in the U.S. Army Reserve. He chose this branch because he enjoys helping and supporting Soldiers, particularly through the important administrative and personnel support provided by the S1 role.

His long-term goal is to own and operate a successful business, combining leadership experience with his background in public policy.

CDT Gabo, thank you for the leadership, work ethic, and perspective you’ve brought to the battalion. Your journey and dedication to service are inspiring, and we wish you continued success as you begin your career as an Army officer. 💪

As Assistant S6, CDT Paraskos has helped support the battalion’s communications and technical systems—making sure information and resources stay connected!

Outside of ROTC and academics, he enjoys hiking, weightlifting, and working on/ driving his car and motorcycle.

Paraskos joined ROTC because it gave him the opportunity to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor while also challenging himself both physically and mentally. Through the program, he’s been able to work toward practicing medicine in what he believes is one of the most meaningful settings possible—serving as an Army physician.

His dream job is to become an Army doctor, ideally working as an emergency physician or trauma surgeon, combining medicine, leadership, and the fast paced challenges of military service.

One of his favorite parts of ROTC has been the friendships he’s built along the way and the “Type 3 fun” that comes from tackling difficult challenges as a team and still finding ways to enjoy the experience.

After commissioning, CDT Paraskos will pursue an Educational Delay so he can attend medical school and continue working toward his goal of becoming a physician.

CDT Paraskos, thank you for the discipline and drive you’ve shown throughout your time in the battalion. B Co Lab Recap!

We start labs with a series of classes to prepare cadets for the day’s training. For this lab, cadets first received instruction on TTLODAC from CDT Lacroix, followed by a Claymore class led by CDT Curtis and CDT Hill, and finished with an Ambush class taught by CDT Paraskos.

After grabbing a quick breakfast and gearing up for the cold weather, cadets stepped off and marched to the training area to conduct two ambush lanes in the woods. Lane one was run by CDT Sanchez as PL (CDT Diaz as PSG) and lane two was run by CDT Diaz as PL (CDT Pruitt as PSG). This gives cadets the opportunity to apply what they had learned in a realistic field environment.

After completing the training, cadets returned to the clubhouse for cleanup and an AAR, where they discussed lessons learned and ways to improve for future training.

Great work from B Co putting their tactical knowledge into practice! Have a fun and safe spring break!

As Company Executive Officer, CDT Hill has played a key role in helping keep her company organized and running smoothly—supporting the commander and making sure training and operations stay on track.

Outside of ROTC and classes, she enjoys playing soccer, lacrosse, and lifting.
Hill joined ROTC because she wanted to serve while still continuing to play soccer. ROTC gave her the opportunity to play soccer at USM while also receiving tuition support and gaining valuable leadership experience.

Her favorite part of ROTC has been super labs, where she says you can learn a lot in just one day while still having fun. What she’ll miss the most after graduation is the fun PT sessions with everyone.

After commissioning, CDT Hill will branch Field Artillery (FA) 💥. It became her first choice after attending CST, where she learned more about the branch and realized how interesting it was. She’s continued to explore FA at drill in New Hampshire and is excited to keep learning more.
