At 01:16 on January 2nd shift 3 of the Gorham Fire Department was dispatched to a local farm stand and residence for a reported kitchen fire that went to a 3rd alarm due to frigid temperatures and well involvement of the residence. Gorham Fire responded along with several mutual aid departments. Scarborough Professional Fire Fighters Local 3894, Westbrook Professional Firefighters Standish Fire Dept, Windham Professional Fire Fighters Local 4095, Buxton Fire Dept, Raymond Fire Dept, and Falmouth Fire/EMS.

𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 | 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿/𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘀

We are currently seeking a qualified professional to join our Gorham Fire Department as a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic. This position is responsible for the delivery of firefighting and rescue services within the Town of Gorham and for agencies assisted by the Gorham Fire Rescue Department. The starting shift is expected to be 24 Hours (8AM to 8AM), working a rotating schedule of 1 day on / 2 days off / 1 day on /4 days off, but the successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours including weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays.

𝗥𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦: Applicants must possess a valid State of Maine Paramedic license. Minimum of State of Maine Firefighter II certification, or equivalent, is required. Haz-Mat Technician & Confined Space certification(s) preferred. Valid State of Maine Class C or higher Driver’s License required. Must pass a post-offer preplacement physical exam, drug test, and comprehensive background screening process. 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗧𝗦: The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees, including excellent health insurance with a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), earned vacation, sick time, and 12 paid holidays. This position is eligible to choose between participating in the MainePERS Special Plan 3C defined benefit retirement plan (25 year, No-Age, 2/3 AFC) or the 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match after six months. Employees also have access to dental, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, and tuition reimbursement. Starting hourly pay rate is $30.81, commensurate with experience; “lateral” credit for prior experience may also be considered, up to $40.01 per hour.

Gorham's Ladder 2, Tank 4, and Tank 6 responded to the scene with on-duty and call members for fire attack and water supply assistance.

At 06:33 AM this morning, the Scarborough Communications Center struck Deskbox 565 for the area of Fengler Road and Martell Way for a report of smoke coming from a window.

An off duty member, who on his way into work, arrived first and found heavy smoke showing from the eaves of a large, 2-story dwelling under construction. The All Hands and 2nd Alarm were simultaneously struck on his initial report.

Companies encountered heavy fire conditions with portions of the floor that had burned through. Operations were initially offensive but switched to defensive for a period of time before crews reentered and continued to work inside.

Water Supply was established from a dry hydrant located on Fengler Road and shuttled by tankers.

Companies returned to service around 2:30pm, with the final apparatus returning into service at approximately 7:00pm.

Shift 1 responded to a single family home with a fire in the garage, on arrival of crews they found heavy involvement in the garage spreading the house and a neighboring home, striking the All Hands and shortly after striking a 2nd Alarm assignment. Crews made quick work stretching lines, searching the home for the possibility of trapped occupants and extinguishing the fire as it spread throughout the home. The neighboring house began to catch on fire and crews quickly extinguished the fire before further extension.
