Annual Town Meeting is this Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at 9:30 A.M.

If you didn't get a chance to attend the pre-town meeting, here is the FY2027 Police Department Budget the Finance Committee is proposing.

Wages:
The Police Chief Hours will remain the same as FY26 at 27.41 hours per week with an increase to the Officer hours to 18 hours per week from 10 hours per week. (*Please note, currently that role remains unfilled since July 2024 however we have been proactively recruiting.) There is a slight decrease in training wages to offset the increased officer hours.

Expenses:
Expense budget remains the same as FY26. As we all know, with inflation, the increase in all costs of good and services have gone way up. With the expense budget level funded for FY27, we will continue to be frugal at the department and manage our costs wisely.

If you have any questions regarding the Police Departments Budget, please don't hesitate to call me at the station at 413-268-3116.

Hope to see you all at Town Meeting this Saturday!

On the evening of Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the Goshen Police Department was advised of a missing persons from town. The last known contact of this person was on Monday afternoon, May 11, 2026 at 4:00PM. The person had left their home without their cell phone by car and hadn't had any contact with family or friends in over 24 hours. Officers were dispatched to the residence and took a statement from the spouse. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued to both Hampshire and Franklin County police departments to look out of the vehicle the person was driving. Tuesday late evening Goshen officers contacted potential retail sites where the resident could have gone. Officers canvased local hospitals and contacted Holyoke Police, Holyoke Mall Security, Northampton Police, and the Massachusetts State Police.

Early morning on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. there was still no contact with the person, Goshen officers contacted the Massachusetts Fusion Center to release a Silver Alert (a rapid public notification system used to locate missing, at-risk individuals), and the information regarding the person was in the process of being uploaded into National Crime Information Center (NCIC - National Database) as a missing person.

I am happy report, the person was located and now safely back home. I want to thank the following agencies for their help in this case: Northampton Control Dispatch, Shelburne Control Dispatch, Ashfield, MA Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Northampton Police Department, Holyoke Police Department, Holyoke Mall Security, Massachusetts Fusion Center and local hospitals; Baystate Franklin, Baystate Medical Center, Berkshire Medical Center, and last but not least, Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Not Today Scammers…Here’s yet another scam that’s circulating. I received a call stating there was a pre authorized payment of almost a $1000 bucks. They asked for a call back and that’s when they get you. The scammers ask for information, name, address, credit card number or debit card and then they use that to drain your bank account. Don’t fall for these scams. Never answer or give any information over the phone. As always, give me a call at the station at 413-268-3116 if you receive any phone call, text or email that looks suspicious and we’ll figure out if it’s legitimate or not.

Don’t let scammers win.

SCAM ALERT: one of our residents just contacted me and asked if this was real.

The answer is NO, this is definitely a SCAM.

This is not a legitimate RMV notification. They want you to call the number or use the QR code to pay a “fine” because they are “threatening” to suspend your license. They are using scare tactics and a sense of urgency for you to act to get you to pay them money or let them have access to your money.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about texts, notifications, mail, or phone calls you get and whether or not they are legitimate, give me a call at the station at 413-268-3116 so we can work together to figure it if it’s real or just another elaborate scam.

On another note;

Can you spot the reasons why this is not legitimate and is a scam? There are several indicators that jump out and several that you have to dig a little deeper. Let’s have a little fun playing spot the scam. Feel free to leave your comments below.
