Deep thoughts with James… (Saturday edition):
Ironically, I ran into someone yesterday I have not seen in several years, and as we were catching up, they were stunned that I was still in the corporate gig 22 years later; but what really shocked me is when I mentioned I was probably going to “check out“ of the rat race at some point this year (lord willing), they acted even more shocked: “well, what in the world will you do with your extra time?! Even if you’re good on money you can’t just check-out?!?” 🧟♂️
* this is the part I guess I just don’t really understand? I get it, we all have to go do some form of the rat race at least for part of our life, but I don’t understand why we have to for our entire lives? Needless to say my undergraduate was in philosophy, so I kind of “got it“ back in 1999 but 25 years later I really “get it“ a lot more. 😉 so even though this [queue Joe Rogan clip] would’ve totally been more me 10-12 years ago, it will hopefully sink through what society has told us, as we simply drunk the Kool-Aid; namely, that you simply must work until you are 65 and if you’re smart, you’ll wait until you’re 70 to maximize retirement and Social Security 🤪 never thinking we might not even live that long? But in the words of Tyler Durden: “but do what you like man.” 💜 ✌️
