In your travels today you may notice flags are being flown at half-staff. The reason for the flags being lowered is May 15th is Peace Officer Memorial Day. Today we honor the sacrifices of Peace Officers across the Country. COBA represents 293 Peace Officers working in the Orange County Correctional Facility. People often don't realize the sacrifices Correctional Officers make throughout their career. Keep this in mind on this day the life expectancy of a Correctional Officer is 59 years old, on average Correctional Officers die within 18 months of retirement, Correctional Officers commit suicide at a rate of 39% higher then other professions and studies show that 34% of Correctional Officers suffer from PTSD. Please today and every day keep in mind the Sacrifices of Peace Officers

We would like to welcome over 100 new citizens of the United States. It is a monumental task to obtain legal citizenship. We thank you for your hard work in obtaining citizenship. Great words of encouragement and advice were spoken by Sheriff Carl DuBois, District Attorney David Hoovler and Judge Victoria Campbell. And the keynote speaker Investigator Manon speech was amazing. Inv. Manon started her Law enforcement career as a Correctional Officer with us. Rock on sister.

Sheriff DuBois proudly led the pledge at today's Naturalization Ceremony where Orange County Sheriff's Office member Investigator Carolina Manon was the keynote speaker. Sheriff DuBois stated, "When Investigator Manon came to this country at the age of fifteen, she did not speak any English. She is truly a success story in obtaining a legal path to citizenship and then giving back to a country that welcomed her by dedicating her life to service with the Sheriff's Office." Amazing.. Deputy Volpe with his new K-9 partner RENO. Named after LT. Frank Maiorino . Spelling might be off but it's about pronunciation of then ending of the name. Deputy Volpe started his career with the corrections division before going to the deputy road division, SOG, K-9. He asked for his shield to be 137 after Correction Sgt. Mark Ward and now naming his K9 partner after Corrections Lieutenant Frank Maiorino.
