Early Dismissal - Goshen High School ONLY

Due to high temperatures in the building and a breakdown in the air conditioning system, Goshen High School will dismiss early today at 12:30 PM.

Please note that there will be no afternoon CTE classes today. Attendance at the Career Center is optional this afternoon; however, district bus transportation will not be provided, so students who choose to attend must provide their own transportation.

Important Update regarding Prairie View Elementary:

The main cooling system broke down yesterday, and our maintenance team is working toward having a temporary AC unit operational by early next week to run the air in the building for the remainder of the season. Extra fans and portable units will be running tomorrow to help until the temporary unit can be installed, so classrooms will be a bit louder than usual.

Today’s Asynchronous Learning (Sept. 2): Teachers are posting self-paced learning activities on Canvas by 12:30 PM. If your child is unable to complete these today, staff will assist them at school tomorrow.

Schedule for tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 3:
- 7:30 AM: School opens at regular time; breakfast will be served.
- 1:00 PM: Early dismissal for Prairie View students ONLY. Afternoon buses will run at 1:00 PM.
- Childcare: Boys & Girls Club and Kids Care will open early for PV students.
- Tomorrow, teachers will guide students on Zoom and Canvas routines, and students will bring home their iPads and chargers as a precaution in case temporary virtual learning is needed for Friday or early next week.

Event Reschedules
- Picture Day: Moved to Sept. 9
- Heritage Night: Moved to Sept. 10
(Updates on the chocolate fundraiser will be shared soon.)

Earlier this week, Kristin Bien WSBT visited West Goshen to learn more about the school’s incredible growth on IREAD. Over the last two years, West Goshen’s IREAD-3 pass rate has climbed from 56.2% to 89% — an increase of nearly 33 percentage points.

Kristin spoke with current fourth graders Brayson Stanley, Stephanie Herrera, Joshua Quevedo Garzon and Matias Caballero Mendez, who took IREAD as third graders last year. She also visited with third-grade teacher and grade-level leader Calla Wimmer and third- and fourth-grade EL teacher Melissa Mitchell about the work behind that growth.

We’re excited for our community to hear their story! Tune in to WSBT 22 at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 31, or Wednesday, September 2, to see the feature. Congratulations to the students, teachers, and staff at West Goshen on an accomplishment worth celebrating!
