Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone. But no one should have to navigate it alone.

In recognition of National Grief Awareness Day, we want to highlight an incredible resource available right here in our community: Ryan’s Place.

Ryan’s Place provides support for children, teens, adults, and families following the death of someone they love. Their services also extend beyond their ongoing peer support groups. When a sudden death impacts a school, workplace, organization, or community, their trained staff can provide immediate, on-site crisis support at no cost.

They also provide education, presentations, trainings, and guidance to help schools, healthcare professionals, organizations, and community members better understand grief and support those experiencing it.

Sometimes the hardest part of grief is simply knowing where to turn. Ryan’s Place is here to remind our community that you don’t have to walk through it alone. 💙

UPDATE as of 1:54 PM: Lincolnway East is now open.

Officers are currently on scene of a crash involving two semi-trucks in the 1900 block of Lincolnway East.

Lincolnway East is currently shut down between College Avenue and Eisenhower Drive.

Please avoid the area and seek an alternate route while emergency crews work the scene.

We will provide updates as they become available. Please use caution and give first responders plenty of room to work.

After 16 weeks of intense training, Officer Jake Turner officially graduated yesterday from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy’s 239th Basic Class!

Jake was also recognized as an Honor Graduate, an achievement earned by only a select few among his class of nearly 130 recruits. Honor Graduates are held to higher academic and physical standards throughout the academy while maintaining an exemplary disciplinary record.

This recognition speaks not only to Jake’s hard work over the past 16 weeks, but also to the dedication and professionalism he brings to his career in law enforcement.

Jake comes from a family that is certainly no stranger to law enforcement, and we know they are incredibly proud of this accomplishment. We are, too.

Congratulations, Officer Turner! We are proud to have you representing the Goshen Police Department and look forward to watching you continue to grow in your career.

Well done, Jake! You earned it. 👏💙 🌟

A big day for Officer Jake Turner as he graduates from the 239th ILEA Basic Class today! 👏👮‍♂️

We’re proud to have him representing GPD and look forward to celebrating this accomplishment with him! 💙

The 239th Basic Class will graduate this Thursday, August 20th, 2026 at Mooresville High School.
Doors will open at 4 PM with the ceremony starting promptly at 5 PM.

We plan to livestream the ceremony on our YouTube Channel and we'll share that out to our page also.

UPDATE 4:04 AM: The road is now open.

⚠️ TRAFFIC ALERT – SR 15 & LAKEVIEW DRIVE ⚠️

Please avoid the area of State Road 15 and Lakeview Drive near Oaklawn.

Officers responded to a crash late last night in which a utility pole was struck, leaving wires down across the roadway. At this time, both northbound and southbound traffic on SR 15 are unable to get through the area.

NIPSCO has been notified, but there is currently no estimated time for when the roadway will reopen.

Please use an alternate route and give crews plenty of room to work safely. We will provide an update when the roadway is clear.

After 25 years of dedicated law enforcement service, including more than 20 years with the Goshen Police Department, Division Chief Mario Mora officially retired effective Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Chief Mora began his law enforcement career with the Ligonier Police Department, where he served for five years before joining the Goshen Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2005.

Over the years, he served our department in a number of roles. In 2013, he became a Detective assigned to the Child Victims Unit, working alongside investigators from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office on some of our community’s most sensitive and challenging cases. In 2019, he was promoted to Lieutenant of the midnight shift before being promoted to Division Chief of Patrol. In 2023, he transitioned to the Division Chief of Investigations, where he continued to serve the department in a leadership capacity.

A career is measured not only by years of service, but also by the lives touched along the way. Twenty-five years in law enforcement represents countless calls for service, investigations, difficult decisions, and opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others. Every assignment and every role contributed to a career dedicated to public service.

We sincerely thank Division Chief Mora for his years of service to the Goshen Police Department and to the Goshen community.

Reflecting on his career, he shared, “I enjoyed working with the community leaders and citizens of Goshen and will always be proud to have served this great community."

We thank Mario for his service to the community and wish him the best in his retirement.

Tomorrow marks the first day back for many students in our community, which means school buses, busy drop-off lines, young pedestrians and bicycles will once again be part of our morning and afternoon commutes.

As everyone settles back into the school-year routine, please give yourself a little extra time and keep safety at the forefront. Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods, stay alert for children crossing the street, and remember to stop for school buses when required.

To our students, teachers, school staff and families - Welcome back! We hope the new school year is filled with learning, growth, new friendships and plenty of great memories.

🌧️ PLEASE USE CAUTION ON AREA ROADS 🌧️

Our officers and City of Goshen Street Department crews are currently responding to areas of high water and flooded roadways.

If you have to be out, please slow down, use extra caution, and NEVER attempt to drive through standing or moving water. Water can be deeper than it appears, and road conditions underneath may be unsafe.

⚠️ If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find another route.
🚧 Please obey all barricades and road closure signs.
🚔 Give emergency responders & Street Dept. crews plenty of room to work safely.

Conditions can change quickly during heavy rainfall. Please stay alert, be patient, and help us keep everyone safe.
