Elkhart County IN Extension Homemakers The Elkhart County Extension Homemakers is a part of the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association affiliated with Purdue University.

The ECEH currently have 17 clubs across the county with over 180 members.

Last week 10 ladies from Elkhart County Extension Homemakers attended the Michigan City District meeting in LaPorte County. We had a wonderful meeting and heard updates from Brittney Schori and Lupe Valtierra, both Regional Organizational Leaders for Purdue Extension. We had reports from our state officers and heard about some wonderful things happening with volunteers in LaPorte County. The food was amazing. Captions under pictures. Next District Meeting will be in April in Kosciusko County.

Today the Open Crafting Circle met and Shawnna taught us how to do Kinusaiga. She provided us with a pattern of an apple and taught us the technique. It was so much fun and we had a great time laughing, crafting and snacking. Anyone can join us on the first Sunday of each month from 3-6 at the extension office.

Sixteen Elkhart County homemakers just spent two days at Camp Mack at Camp ELKO Retreat. It’s our yearly fall retreat with homemakers from Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall, and St Joe counties. We had a funny garden hat contest, a Master Gardener speak on container gardening, made Japanese lanterns, heard speakers from Camp Mack, played BINGO, had our own Jenn Chupp comedian extraordinaire, made pressed flower bookmarks, and had lots of great food and fellowship. A big shout out to the planning committee for a wonderful time.

The Elkhart County Extension Homemakers met this evening in the Ag Hall at the Elkhart County 4H Fairgrounds for their annual Achievement Night Dinner. Members brought their favorite salads and desserts to share. The night was full of friendship and great food.
Clubs and members were recognized for their years of tenure - from 5 to 70 years! New members and those members that have passed on were also honored. Clubs and committees were also praised for there service to the organization. The 2026-2027 Board members were installed, the winners of the Cultural Arts contests were recognized, a a new Homemaker of the Year was awarded. It was a great night of fellowship!

The Modern Homemaker group met this evening for their September Club Meeting. They heard a lesson on Color Coding Your Health given by Sally Sally Martinez Ponce. They also took a quiz on categorizing the colors of fruit and vegetables. They enjoyed colorful fruit kebobs and apple c***r as a treat.

The Fall Holiday Committee is hard at work preparing for Homemade for the Holidays which is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th from 9 AM to 12 PM in Maple Hall on the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds. Everyone is invited to attend.

Tickets purchased before October 14 are $15 per person. After October 14 or at the door, the tickets are $20 per person. You may purchase a table of 7 to receive premiere seating and 7 raffle tickets.

The extension club contest is a snowman made of any medium and must be delivered to a committee member by October 14.

This year there will also be a silent auction and all items for the auction must be delivered to a committee member by October 14.

Let's Cook-Off!

The Byler Lienhart Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 in the Lamb Barn at the Elkhart County 4H Fairgrounds. Please enter gate 5. Once your equipment has been unloaded, you will be given further instructions.

Check-in begins at 9:00am with judging at 11:30am. Contestants must submit 2 copies of their recipe used for each entry. You may enter one item in each category.

Thank you to the Elkhart County Pork Producers, Elkhart County Beef Cattle Association, and Elkhart County Sheep Breeders for sponsoring this event.
