Orange County STOP DWI & Traffic Safety continued its pre-prom safety programming this week with visits to Goshen High School and James I. O’Neill High School.

Students were encouraged to make smart choices, think about the consequences of impaired or distracted driving, and always have a plan before celebrating. As prom season approaches, these conversations are critical in helping ensure every student returns home safely and that there is at graduation.

Thank you to the students, staff, and presenters who continue supporting this important message of responsibility, safety, and making good decisions.

🚔 BUCKLE UP, OR PAY UP 🚔

The *Click It or Ticket* enforcement campaign is underway in Orange County. Law enforcement agencies across the county are reminding drivers and passengers to make seat belt safety a priority.

Wearing your seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself in a crash. Whether you’re heading across town or across the state, every trip begins with one important step — **Click It.**

Seat belts save lives by reducing the risk of serious injury and death in motor vehicle crashes. Drivers and passengers — front seat and back seat — should always buckle up, every ride, every time.

📅 Enforcement efforts will be increased throughout the campaign period to help keep our roadways safe.

✅ Buckle up before you drive
✅ Make sure every passenger is restrained
✅ Set the example for young drivers and children
✅ Never assume a short trip is a safe trip

In recognition of National EMS Week, we proudly honor the dedicated EMS providers and EMS instructors serving Orange County.
Day in and day out, you deliver high-quality prehospital care to our residents and visitors, often under challenging and unpredictable circumstances. Across Orange County, EMS agencies respond to nearly 70,000 calls for service each year. Each call represents a moment when someone needed help, and you answered.
Your commitment, compassion, and professionalism form the backbone of our emergency response system. The work you do does not go unnoticed, and your impact on this community is immeasurable.
This week, we also recognize members of Orange County EMS agencies who traveled to the Empire State Plaza in Albany for the Annual EMS Memorial Dedication Ceremony. There, we honored fallen EMS providers whose names were added to the New York State Department of Health EMS Memorial Wall: Pamela S. Hehn (FDNY and Goshen EMS, and former Goshen resident) and Lisa Jean Sillins (Ambulnz, Newburgh, NY). We remember their service and sacrifice.
If you see an EMS provider in your community, please take a moment to thank them for their service.
Thank you for your continued dedication to protecting the health and safety of Orange County.

As we move through prom season, students across the county are hearing an important message about making smart choices and celebrating safely.

Speakers Marianne Angelillo, Chris Devitt, and Brian Strommer presented impactful pre-prom assemblies at the Wallkill Central School District, Chester Union Free School District, Middletown City School District, Warwick Valley Central School District, Port Jervis City School District, and Washingtonville Central School District, reaching over 1,000 students.

These assemblies encouraged students to look out for one another, make responsible decisions, and create memories that will last a lifetime — safely. Our message to every student this prom season is simple: P.R.O.M. — Please Return On Monday.

Thank you to all of the schools, staff, and students who participated in these meaningful conversations and helped promote a safe and memorable prom season for everyone. 💙✨

🔥ELEVATED FIRE RISK🔥 - Orange County
Elevated fire spread risk continues across Orange County and the Hudson Valley through Monday night and Tuesday.

Warm temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds up to 30 mph are creating conditions where even a small spark can spread quickly.

LOCAL BURN BANS REMAIN IN EFFECT
Check with local fire departments for updates.

Conditions will remain warm and above normal on Tuesday before a strong weather system brings steady, soaking rain on Wednesday. This rainfall is expected to help reduce fire risk. Showers may linger into Thursday with gradual clearing into Friday.

Description of Fire Danger Ratings: YELLOW
All fine dead fuels ignite readily, and fires start easily from most causes. Unattended brush and campfires are likely to escape. Fires spread rapidly and short-distance spotting is common. High-intensity burning may develop on slopes or in concentrations of fine fuels. Fires may become serious and their control difficult unless they are attacked successfully while small.

Use extreme caution outdoors and report any signs of fire immediately—this is not the week to take chances.
