Things to know before you register your child for summer camp

Registration will open for Goshen residents on Friday, June 12. Registration for non-residents will open Monday, June 15.

We are excited to offer our summer camp program this year and have taken many precautions to ensure the safety of both our campers and counselors. Following guidelines from the CDC and the Orange County Dept of Environmental Health, below are some of the safeguards we will have in place during camp.

Temperatures will be taken of each camper before entrance to camp each morning.

Parents will be required to complete a health screening questionnaire for their camper at check in each day.

We will have a limited number of campers this year. Each grade group will be broken down into groups of 10. Each group of 10 will have a minimum of 2 counselors.

All surfaces will be disinfected multiple times during the day.
When campers are sitting with their group they will be sitting 6 feet away from each other.

There will be no trips, bounce houses, water slides or incoming events during camp.

Campers MUST bring their own masks and water bottles labeled clearly with their name each day. Any masks, water bottles, or personal items left at the camp will be disposed of at the end of each day. We are not able to have a lost and found table this year.

Camp will NOT be held on days when we have inclement weather. We are unable to refund or prorate registration fees.
If your child feels ill in any way please keep them home from camp.

Unfortunately we are only able to offer a 5 hour camp day this year. The hours will be from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Please feel free to contact the parks and recreation office at 294-1558 with any questions.

Many factors go into making the decision whether or not to offer our day camp program this summer. As of right now a decision is still being discussed. Once we have the final word we will communicate via our page, Instagram, and mass email to our database. If you do not already have an account on our website, please do so now so you do not miss any of our communication. Thank you for your patience.

Effective Sunday, March 22, the State of New York has ordered that all non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size or for any reason are canceled. The village of Goshen has ordered Bruen and Erie Street parks closed until further notice. In order to maintain the safety of our youngest residents, the playground at Craigville Park will also be closed until further notice. As much as we would like to keep all parks open, these areas lend themselves to close contact. All other Goshen parkland will remain open until further order, but visitors should adhere to the Center for Disease Control recommendation to maintain at least six feet of space between themselves and others.

• Avoid close contact with people, even when outside. Keep a distance of at least 6 feet to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
• Avoid games and activities that require close contact.
• Avoid frequently touched surfaces and objects. This includes playground equipment like slides and swings.
• Don’t share equipment such as bicycles, helmets, balls or frisbees.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Cover your cough and sneezes with a tissue and discard the tissue in a closed container.
• Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Here is the 3rd phase of our placemaking project at Erie Street Park 'Painted Gameboard Picnic Tables'. There are Dominoes, Checkers, TIC TAC TOE, and Chess. There are RED mailboxes attached to each picnic table to store the game pieces.

Art play in the park committee had a vision to create fun activities that would work for all age ranges. We started with Phase 1 'Mirror Me' a sensory play area and Phase 2 'May you never outgrow bubbles' an interactive art play area. Both are temporary park improvements and now our 3rd Phase the 'Painted Gameboard Picnic Tables' are a longer term park improvement. This placemaking project was made possible by Art play in the park committee winning one of the Orange County Citizens Foundation Placemaking Grant.
We hope that all residents have and will enjoy our project and we hope to inspire others to create some more temporary to long term park improvements as well.

If your child is registered for the first week of camp and you have not sent in your child's immunizations you must do so before noon tomorrow, Thursday, June 27.
We have been emailing reminders since the end of May.
If we do not have your child's immunization form by tomorrow they will not be allowed to stay at camp as per the Orange County Department of Health.
You may not bring the form on Monday morning because the forms must be processed by the Health Department before your child can attend camp. If you bring the forms Monday morning your child will not be able to attend camp until Tuesday.

The office will be closed on Friday, June 28 in preparation for camp.

Please fax forms to 845-294-1276 or email to [email protected].

At Erie Street Park - Art play in the Park is a place-making project at Erie Street Park. "May you never outgrow bubbles" is an interactive art play area. You can pose for a picture blowing bubbles, in a bubble or popping a bubble.
You can play hopscotch or hot lava with the bubbles. Just have fun and may you never outgrow bubbles.
This project is painted with tempera paint, a non-toxic paint that will wash away over time making this a low cost park improvement that can either be repainted or be an inspiration to create something new.

About Goshen Parks & Recreation

The Goshen Parks & Recreation department (Joint Recreation Commission) is comprised of two part-time office employees and two part-time maintenance employees. We answer to, and are governed by, a Board comprised of both Village and Town representatives. Our annual budget is a combined amount given to us by the Village and Town of Goshen. Our Board meets at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of every month at Village Hall.
