Here in Orange County, we are employing new measures to collect information relevant to the COVID-19 pandemic in our community by asking residents, and those with ties to the county, to voluntarily submit their unique stories online. We are asking that you do that here.

Please share this post so we can obtain as much information as possible to interpret these times.

Thank you for your help.

Museum director Janet Terhune was on stand-by for the horrific barn fire that destroyed some of the stables at Goshen Historic Track this evening. All the horses were saved, but the level of loss is still devastating. We stand with the harness racing community in support of our sport's National Historic Landmark in this time of sadness and need.

Today, we can remember many anniversaries. For some, it's the 50th anniversary of the assassination of a popular President. For others, it's the 150th anniversary of one of the most powerful speeches ever written by a President. This is the normal day of an Historian: we recall it all, and it's all important, because it shaped who we are, and who we will be, as Americans.

NEWS! Gettysburg Foundation Takes Final Steps to Purchase Gettysburg Railroad Station

The Gettysburg Foundation’s final purchase offer was accepted by the Borough of Gettysburg at the Borough Council meeting held November 12, 2013. Gettysburg Foundation President Joanne Hanley stated, “The Gettysburg Foundation is pleased to acquire the Gettysburg Railroad Station from the Borough of Gettysburg. We are very appreciative of all the hard work of the Borough, who acquired the property in May of 1998 and since then has renovated and preserved this building. The Foundation plans to hold the train station on behalf of Gettysburg National Military Park until Congress passes legislation to include the station in the boundary of the park, at which time the Gettysburg Foundation will donate the train station to the park.”

Monitoring many races at the same time: the NY City Marathon and the campaigns for office here in Orange County NY. What they all have in common: we aspire to greatness, we set goals, we face challenges and adversity…and in the end, without teamwork, we cannot succeed. Best wishes to all. CWB

On this occasion, my office is featuring 3 local artists of tremendous talent in the public areas including my dear friend Gayle Fedigan of Newburgh.
