Yesterday afternoon our department responded to a working structure fire on County Road 2201. Arriving units reported a defensive strategy and went to work. Due to the advanced progress of the fire, the structure was a total loss. Crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes. We appreciate the working mutual aid agreements with surrounding agencies. Due to aggressive leadership across multiple agencies, there was 10 apparatus dispatched over 3 departments. Thank you to Troy Fire Department, Luverne Fire Department, Glenwood Fire Department, Haynes Ambulance, Pike County Sheriffs Office and South Alabama Electric Cooperative for your response yesterday. To Pike County E-911 dispatchers, thank you for your professionalism in coordinating a multi-agency and multi-county response.

This morning at approximately 2:45 a.m. fire units were dispatched to a structure fire on Academy St. in Goshen. On arrival units found a double-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames. Due to the advanced progression of the fire, a defensive attack was declared and members went to work. After speaking with the tenant of the home, it was determined that no one was at home at the time of the fire. Multiple fire units operated on scene for approximately 3 hours. We would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance with equipment and personnel: City of Troy Fire Department, Luverne Fire Department, Glenwood Fire Department, Pike County Sheriffs Office, South Alabama Electric Cooperative & the Alabama Fire Marshals Office. The fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshals Office.

We are happy to share with our community this successful grant application through Wiregrass RC&D. The Goshen Volunteer Fire Department secured a maximum funding grant of $5,000 for turnout gear for members of our department. Each set of gear totals in excess of $3,500. Without these funds, our members would have been forced to serve with outdated gear. We are thankful of the generosity and successful application process.

To the citizens we serve in our area and the surrounding communities, tonight and tomorrow morning appears to be filled with multiple opportunities for harsh weather and powerful storms. Please remain weather aware and have multiple ways of being notified in the event of a weather warning. Also, please remember to treat all downed power lines as though they are energized at all times. Please be responsible and look out for your neighbor as well, and we assure each of you, that we will be here for you if the need arises.
