Our Democratic Caucus enjoyed breaking bread together during our monthly caucus meeting. Sharing a potluck meal reminded us that leadership is about more than policy; it’s about relationships, trust, and community.

Over good food and friendship, we reflected on the successes we have made in affordability, accessibility, and transparency in government. We planned for the work ahead and shared the importance of leading together on behalf of the people we serve. Our different backgrounds and experiences strengthen us as a group, and our shared commitment to our neighbors and to moving Orange County forward continues to bring us together.

We are grateful to be on a team that values collaboration, camaraderie, and service. We’re excited for the work ahead and proud to be leading together.

We finally did it.

Since I arrived in the Assembly in 2023, I have fought every year to get funding in the NYS Budget for American Legion’s Boys State and Girls State. These are week-long programs that engage high-school students in civic leadership. Many students that have been a part of it have gone onto leadership roles around the nation in all fields.

$200,000 total has finally been allocated to these amazing programs so that NY can once again guide our future leaders to success.

A great day by our Legislators!

Today in Orange County government, the Democratic Caucus proposed and advanced three focused, practical initiatives aimed at affordability, fairness, and public safety.

Legislator Fascaldi put forth a resolution intended to locally address a state pension loophole so the families of fallen first responders (in the sheriffs office and corrections) receive the full benefits their loved ones earned after decades of service. It’s about fairness and honoring commitment of our first responders.

Legislator Carter put forth a resolution supporting fair-chance hiring and re-entry efforts because stable employment reduces recidivism, strengthens families, fills workforce gaps, and lowers long-term costs to taxpayers. I was pleased this passed unanimously.

Legislator Ramos has been key in establishing a housing sub committee. Today I’m proud that their proposal for a county-wide housing study passed which will finally ground our affordability efforts in real data, so we can better understand supply, demand, and why so many workers are being priced out.

Procedural but important to note: I’m glad to see some Republicans break with party ranks to vote for our proposal to establish a Deputy Party leader position to ensure a leadership flow to protect all parties in event of unforeseen emergencies. This took a lot of work, but common sense prevailed.

I’m proud to be part of work that’s focused, data-driven, and centered on making Orange County more affordable, safer, and more opportunity-rich for the people who live and work here.

It feels good to be doing the work for the people!
