(520)

Colorado State Forest State Park contains 71,000 acres of outdoor opportunity nestled along the Medicine Bow Mountains, near the Never Summer Range. With miles and miles of trails, you can come and enjoy the beauty of rugged Colorado. Bring your horses, hiking gear, or off-highway vehicles (OHV). We have 4 campgrounds available with 3 taking reservations; one with electrical hook-ups. If you are l

ooking for something a little more secluded we also offer over 60 campsites dispersed throughout the park. Along with hiking we offer great fishing opportunities, provided they are biting, at North Michigan Reservoir & Ranger Lakes. If you are up for a little more adventure we have about a half dozen high alpine lakes to suit your fancy. If you are visiting us in the winter we change over to a winter recreation destination. Snowshoe or cross country ski our groomed trails or blaze your own. Ice fishing is also available and for something more fast paced, bring your snowmobiles! For those treasure hunters out there we have hidden 13 different geocaches throughout the park. They range in difficulty from just outside the Moose Visitor Center to a cache taking you to 11,000 ft in elevation. We still have snow on high alpine trails! Snow usually melts by the end of June.

Because of the high winds, we also have many trees down on trails, including the high alpine trails. Volunteers and trails crew are working to clear the trees.

The upper gate (Hwy 14) to Am. Lakes and Lake Agnes is open, however, the lower gate is still closed due to snow on the trails.
Dress accordingly!

Happy Friday from State Forest State Park! We are so excited for this weekend and all of the visitors to come. Another three inches of snow fell last night, and so many of our roads and trails are muddy.

Temperatures are getting warmer during the day, and most of the snow will be melted in the open trails and common areas. However, the high alpine lakes still have many feet of snow.

Joining us for opening weekend? Stop by the Visitor's Center this Saturday May 23 to learn about moose and make moose crafts! 🫎Don't forget to ask about our Junior Ranger program.

Our water will be on in the campgrounds and nature trails will be accessible. We have had lots of snow and rain, so areas of the park may be muddy and wet.
