The combination of low humidity, gusty southwesterly winds, and dry vegetation will lead to Elevated to Critical Fire Danger today, meaning fires could easily get out of control. Therefore, outdoor burning is strongly discouraged today.

‼️Buchanan, DeKalb, and Clinton counties motorists: another super load will be coming through the area today, Tuesday, Feb. 24. This will impact several routes and cause delays throughout the day.

Affected Routes:
U.S. 169 Highway: Between St. Joseph and Gower.
U.S. 36 Highway: Between Cameron and St. Joseph.
Missouri Route 116: Between Plattsburg and Lathrop.
Several State Routes Between St. Joseph and Lathrop.
Delays will occur at various intervals throughout the entire day as the load moves from St. Joseph to Lathrop.

TRAFFIC: The rig that carried last week's super cargo to the Turney Energy Center is currently making its return trip. While it won't be loaded, it will still be slow-moving. Expect traffic delays along 116 Highway and 169 Highway into the afternoon.

Engineer Mark Lee Edwards, 42
Gower Fire Protection District. Gower, Missouri
Engineer Edwards stopped by the fire station to pick up some equipment. As he approached the station, he slipped on ice and fell. As a result of the fall, Engineer Edwards broke two bones of one leg just above the ankle. Surgery was required to repair the damage to Engineer Edwards’ leg. During surgery, an incident occurred that deprived Engineer Edwards of oxygen. He fell into a coma and was eventually transferred to a long-term care facility. Engineer Edwards died on January 29, 2002.
