NEFD and NWFD recently had a swearing in ceremony for our lateral class and some newer personnel that have joined our fire department. These individuals have come into our ranks and have made an immediate impact in our ability to better serve our community. NEFD welcomes these Firefighters and we are excited to watch them grow and develop in our system. Congratulations guys and welcome to one of the greatest areas in Indiana to be doing the greatest job in the world!

Our thanks to the Parkview Mirro Center SIM Lab for coming for 3 days of Simulation Training with our personnel. Our scenario was an 8 year old pulled from a house fire with airway compromise and severe burns. It was a really good simulation experience for our personnel and a good preparation for a very real possibility we could see in the winter season. Make sure your smoke detectors and CO detectors are present and functioning as we get into the colder months!

As I reflected this year on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the day that redefined my career personally and our profession as First Responders, my mind kept going to the phrase "Never Forget" The older I get, the more I am getting forgetful and I accidentally forget things all the time. But when I remember something, I am doing that actively by choice. That revelation is changing the way I look at things. This took awhile for me to put together, but this year and every year for the rest of my life I will not "Never Forget" I will Choose to Remember.

NOTICE TO BIDDERS - FOR PUBLICATION
Notice is hereby given in accordance with IC 5-22-22-5 and IC 5-3-1-2, that the Northeast Allen Fire Protection District, Allen County, Indiana, by and through its Board of Trustees, hereinafter referred to as the “Owner”, will receive sealed bids at the office of its District-Station 140, 13415 State Street, Grabill, IN 46741 for the purchase of its 2009 Ford E-450 Chassis with a 2000 Braun Ambulance Box (Remounted) (VIN # 1FDXE45P99DA81675), hereinafter referred to as the “Ambulance”.
Sealed bids must be submitted in sealed envelopes addressed to Northeast Allen Fire Protection District-Station 140, 13415 State Street, Grabill, IN 46741. The bid envelope must clearly indicate (1) the name, address, and contact information of the bidder; (2) the purpose of the bid; and (3) the bid amount offered. Only legitimate, reasonable market offers, in the sole discretion of Owner, will be considered. The Ambulance shall be sold AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH ALL FAULTS. Accordingly, Owner makes no warranty or representation, express or implied, or arising by operation of law, including, without limitation, any warranty of condition, ability, or merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, with respect to the Ambulance. The awarded Bidder shall purchase the Ambulance based on their own investigation, and by accepting title to the Ambulance, the awarded Bidder acknowledges that they have conducted any investigation that they consider necessary or advisable and that they are not relying upon any representation of Owner or its employees, representatives, or agents.
Pursuant to IC 5-22-22-5, Owner will award the bid to the highest responsible bidder; however, Owner reserves to the right to cancel this advertisement and/or reject any and all bids. Bids received after 4:00 PM EST on Friday, October 23, 2026 will be returned unopened.

This week has been week 2 of our lateral academy class for NEFD and NWFD. We have some great new Fire Fighters that come to us with several years of experience. But even so, we're always learning and always training. Here are some pictures from their training this week. Welcome Aboard!

I want to give a huge shout out to our Fire Marshal. He has worked hard all summer pushing fire prevention and community involvement and has done an excellent job! Over Grabill Days, he gave out almost 700 fire hats, 100s of bracelets and coloring books and even a few smoke detectors. The kids loved it! In this special picture, another special friend got the opportunity to get in on the fun. We love this community and the people we serve. We are here for you!

For many in the First Responder Community, 9/11 is not a matter of "Never Forget". We carry the experiences from our chosen professions with us every day. For us it is a matter of choosing to pause and remember. On this day we remember the job we have been called to do. We remember those who have gone on before us. And we remember what was taken from us on that day 25 years ago. Many may "never forget" on one day, but in our community we remember what could be asked of us on any given day. For Honor, For America and For Each other…We stand and we remember.

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of one of the most devastating days in our country’s history. For first responders that lives through that day 25 years ago, it never leaves us. Friday morning at 08:46 we will be raising the flag at the Grabill station to remember that day. To remember what was lost and to remember what sacrifice truly means. You are welcome to join us. At 08:46 and 09:03 the world changed forever and so we will pause and we will remember. You are welcome to join us.

Sometimes good training is going back and working on the basics. Here that is just what we’re doing. To be a rural fire department we have to know how to shuttle, dump and pump water. Literally the basics of fire fighting. The next level to stepping up that training…do it with a neighboring department. When the training becomes real, we’ll both be there and that is never the time to figure out that equipment or manpower doesn’t work well together!

NEFD responded to a serious collision on SR 1 over the weekend. Crews responded quickly from all 3 stations to treat those injured. Injuries were serious, but not life threatening, All crews did an excellent job!
