More Override tax impact information from the town.

After our previous post regarding the potential impact of the override on tax bills, the Town received several questions about how the increase would couple with the standard 2.5% increase.

The example below has been put together to show the yearly tax impact from the override as well as the 2.5% increase, based on the average tax bill for a single-family home in Grafton ($9,086).

Make sure you have all the facts! Understand how an Override works!

Residents have contacted the Town with questions about how the override will impact their tax bills moving forward. To try to clear up any confusion, the example below has been compiled using a sample home value of $663,600.

If the override vote passes, the average increase in Year 1 will be $165.90 per household. This uses the proposed $1,114,629 of override capacity in FY2027. The remainder of the $5,000,000 override will be applied across the next four Fiscal Years (FY2028-2031).

In year two, the average increase would be approximately $145.99 per household. This increase, coupled with the year one increase, is cumulative. Residents would pay a total increase of $311.89 in year two.

In years three, four, and five, the estimated increase would be the same, $145.99 per household. By the end of the proposed 5-year life of the override, residents can estimate a permanent increase to their tax bill of $749.86 per year, on average.

Breaking: SJC sides with the People on Public Records Law ballot question

Moments ago, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court issued a decision allowing the public records law question to proceed to the ballot, declining to take up the matter preemptively as requested by Karen Spilka in her effort to block the question from advancing. A good day for democracy, indeed.

Anne Brensley Wins Republican Endorsement for Lieutenant Governor

Worcester, MA — Anne Brensley has officially secured the Massachusetts Republican Party endorsement for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, earning more than 55% of the vote at the state convention. Brensley will join Mike Minogue, the Republican-endorsed candidate for Governor, forming a unified ticket heading into the general election.

“This victory belongs to the people who believed in us from the very beginning. When we started this campaign, we had nothing. No name recognition, no followers, no volunteer base, and no money. We were underestimated at every step. But what we did have was a group of dedicated activists, grassroots supporters, and volunteers who refused to be ignored.

They made the calls. They knocked the doors. They showed up when no one else would. They believed in this campaign before it was popular, before it was easy, and before anyone thought we could win.

Tonight is proof that grassroots still matters. It proves that you do not need the backing of the establishment to build something real. You need people who are willing to fight, who are willing to speak up, and who are willing to put in the work.

I am incredibly grateful to every single person who stood with us, who gave their time, their energy, and their support. This campaign was built by you, and this victory is yours.

Now we move forward together, stronger than ever, with the full backing of our party and a clear mission to bring accountability, transparency, and opportunity back to Massachusetts.”

Brensley’s campaign has centered on transparency, affordability, and empowering families and local communities. She has drawn statewide attention for her efforts to enforce the voter-approved audit of the Legislature and for her advocacy on parental rights and local control.

Mike Minogue and Anne Brensley now move forward with the full backing of the state party, positioning themselves as outsider candidates prepared to challenge Beacon Hill’s status quo and offer a clear alternative to one-party rule.
