05/22/2026 – WATERMAIN BREAK - UPDATE
UPDATE: Crews have repaired the break, and all residents should have water service back on. Please remember to Flush your pipes when resuming water use.

Flush Your Pipes – Due to the break you may experience brown or discolored water. After the water main is repaired, turn on your faucets and allow water to run until clear. Start by opening the cold-water faucets, especially if you have an outdoor faucet, and allow them to run for at least 15 to 20 minutes until they run clear.

WATERMAIN BREAK: There is currently a water main break on Fairlawn St. We have crews are currently on scene, working in resolving the issue. Residents in the area of 16 to 32 Fairlawn and Brigham Hill may experience low water pressure or no water at all. We are sorry for the inconvenience and are diligently working to get this resolved as soon as possible.

Limit Water Use – Try to limit water use during this time due to the watermain break.

Thank you for your patience during this time.

📢 Water Use Reminder for Grafton Water District Residents
We want to provide an important reminders and clarification regarding water use in town for those that are under Grafton Water District.
🚱 Reason for the Mandatory Water Ban
This is an important reminder from the Grafton Water District:
As a condition of our approval from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) to increase pumping from a well with lower iron and manganese levels — which helps reduce brown/discolored water — the mandatory non-essential water ban has been extended until the time that all treatment plants can be built.
This operational requirement allows the District to:
• Improve overall water quality
• Reduce instances of brown/discolored water
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards
Full details of the mandatory outdoor water ban can be viewed here:
https://graftonwaterdistrict.org/2025/09/17/public-notice-outdoor-water-ban/
🔹 This information can also be found at the top of our website homepage for your convenience.
🔹 Drought Status
The US Drought Monitor has designated our region as being in D0 - Abnormally Dry. While this is important information, the current water ban in Grafton is not a result of the state drought level.
Residents can view current statewide drought conditions here:

🏗️ Treatment Plant Construction Update
On October 29, 2025, construction officially began on the new water treatment facilities. The project was awarded to Winston Builders and represents a major step toward long-term water quality improvements for all customers.
Learn more about the construction progress here:

We truly appreciate your continued cooperation and patience as we work toward completing the new treatment facilities and improving water quality systemwide. 💧

Friday April 17, 2026

Our operators will be out today flushing hydrants in areas that have been affected by discolored water. This should be completed by 3:30 pm.

If you experience brown water, try to limit your water usage until after this time. Prior to using hot water, doing laundry, or dishes flush out your pipes until the water is clear. This is typically accomplished by 15-20 minutes of running cold water. Using an outside faucet will be more effective than inside.

We thank you in advance for your patience.
The Grafton Water District team.

Water System Update – April 16, 2026 UPDATE

ALL WATER SERVICES HAVE BEEN RESTORED.

Due to the major water main break on April 13th, today crews performed emergency repairs in the affected area. The valve repair has been completed; however, an additional issue was identified during the process.

Affected areas will be Hollywood Dr., Beverly Rd., Jordan, Terrace, Lake View Dr., Sunset Lane, and Shore Dr.

Due to elevated levels of discolored water in the system, crews are actively flushing hydrants today, April 16, 2026, and will continue flushing operations again tomorrow, April 17, 2026, to help clear the system.

While the water is safe to drink and use, customers may experience temporary discoloration. We recommend allowing the water to run until it clears before using it for drinking, cooking, washing clothes, or dishes.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to fully restore normal service.
