We've been very busy getting ready to welcome you all back to the mine for the season! Hard to believe that a week or two ago we had a beautiful spring view from the parking lot yet a sea of ice still down in the lower tunnel. We actually had to give the ice a little nudge this year in order to get some serious melting going or we might have been looking at a very late season opening date! (Ummmm, ok more than a little nudge, like a huge shove with the big excavator. LOL) Now we need a few good dry days! Waterproof shoes will be a GREAT idea for early season guests as there is sure to be mud due to all the melting and rain we have had! The good news is, as winter rains, snow, ice melting and more rain always does new stuff has been washed up! We still have lots to do over the next 5 days but we look forward to opening that beat up old gate on Friday morning May 22nd! (Wait until you see the new gate! Coming soon! 😊)

Opening day 2026 is one week from today! Friday, May 22nd! Lots of changes and new items in the gift shop! We still have a lot to do to be ready for opening day! Time flies, but we're on it! A work in process, always!! See you in a week!!

3 WEEKS FROM TODAY!!!
OPENING DAY 2026 9:00 AM
The countdown is on, and man have we been busy! Prospector Joe and Dorene tend to avoid serious winter at all costs, and that means a pretty limited window of time to GET IT DONE before opening. One week ago we took a good look at the gift shop, made some BIG decisions, took a deep breath and started demolition! Dorene made the rule that the renovations had to be done by opening day, giving us just 3 weeks to complete and one week for set up. Can we do it? YES WE CAN! Here's a few before during and after pics! And by the way Dorene and the dogs headed home for 3 days and were amazed by what was accomplished during that time! A huge thank you to Prospector Joe, Greg, Megan, and the boys for working hard day and night to get it done! As we have said from day one this place will be a work in process for as long as we own it!

Patrick Bigos gives us s**t all the time and he is sometimes right. On that note we have not been real good on doing a lot of updates here in the off season. Prospector Joe and Dorene have been busy on making a lot of new swag for up in the gift shop. We anxiously wait for winter to end so we can all get back rockhounding. We will post some of the workings that will be available this spring .
